Re: NaS PaLaRo, an oligoanalytic language
Syntax Continued Tense Because verbs don't really conjugate, indicating things like tense or aspect is done with predicate modifiers. For instance, the predicate Ne, which means past on its own, indicates past tense when modifying another predicate. ZuNaTi Ne. = rain past = It was raining. Such mod...

Re: NaS PaLaRo, an oligoanalytic language
Well, I expected to get this all posted in one night, but that computer crash slowed me down quite a bit, so I'm afraid I'll have to leave it here until tomorrow. That said, I've got the basics down, and I hope everyone enjoys what's here so far. See you tomorrow.

Re: NaS PaLaRo, an oligoanalytic language
Basic Syntax Now for the good stuff. The simplest NaS PaLaRo sentence is just a single predicate. The first predicate in a sentence is always considered the "verbal" predicate. ZuNaTi. = rain = It's raining. In the absence of any other marking, it's assumed to be simple present tense. Any...

Re: NaS PaLaRo, an oligoanalytic language
Examples plox! Word order is highly flexible, based on tags like Japanese, with a verb-first structure (usually). I would've expected strict word order being an analytic language. Strict word order might allow for less ambiguous statements, as I've read is a problem with olilangs. Sorry, computer c...

Re: NaS PaLaRo, an oligoanalytic language
Word Construction Words are, of course, built from these 92 roots. This extends even to basal grammar words, such as the copula, conjunctions, and particles. While all words are built from these roots, construction of new words "on the fly" is not regularly done, except in artistic venues...

NaS PaLaRo, an oligoanalytic language
So I have finally reached a point in my development where I'm comfortable posting a description of my conlang. The biggest obstacle to doing so before was finalizing the roots, which are quintessential to the language, as it is oligosynthetic. But, as I just filled in the last blank ("Vu" ...

Re: Count to 10 in your Conlang
My language is oligosynthetic, and doesn't consider there to be much separation between numbers and words. Every number up to a certain amount is built out of the names of the digits, strung together in sequence. The language also uses base 6, so every number above 5 technically has two digits. I.E....

Re: Contest for Most Absurd Conworld
Hmmm. I may have something appropriate, though the point of interest in it isn't exactly the conworld, but the universe it's in. Well, what the hey, I'll give it a go. http://science.trigunamedia.com/mvc-wmp-2011-interactive/geo_torus.gif My hypothetical, nameless planet orbits an average star in a ...

Re: Initial or Final
I think you should take a look on interlinear The problem with interlinear glosses is that my language has few to no overtly grammatical morphemes, a large number of lexical morphemes, and has very open word classes. Even the particles and conjunctions are composed of oligosynthetic roots. Roughly:...

Initial or Final
My current primary conlang has finally reached a level of development where I feel completion is in sight. Being oligosynthetic, production ran nearly in reverse, with little to no vocabulary being complete, but enormous amounts of grammar having been finished. In fact, this grammar is nearly comple...

Re: Meritocracies
what? 'races' aren't meritocratic, cultures are! and there's almost never a perfect correspondence between race and culture, or between race, culture and character... except within the racist worldview. I don't mean to be mean, but the race thing in fantasy sometimes creeps me out. Well, I'm sorry ...

Re: Meritocracies
One of my races is meritocratic. They are warlike, appropriately enough, and their leader is called the warchief, having earned that title in combat, either with the previous warchief, or from a great number of competitors upon the death of the previous chief. Not a terribly original system, but hey...

Constructed Origin
I'm in what I thought was the middle and am now realizing is more the late stage of creating my first oligosynthetic language. It's a challenge unlike any other conlanging I've done so far, having a much different process of construction then other languages. What's most difficult about it is develo...

Thanks for the link. I doubt that counts as "advertising" per se, as it is pertinent to the topic at hand. :) I'm glad you ended up liking your system. It sounds insanely complex. I'm just happy to stick to the plain and boring two parent genetic exchange bit. LoL! I'm curious as to what ...

Re: Spelling in conlangs...
Due to a weird logogram fetish I have, most of my languages thus far have been semanto-phonetic. However, that doesn't mean there's not room for weird orthography. There's a lot I could do to make my scripts more natural, introducing different readings, as in Japanese, would be a good start. But so ...
