Re: CBB Conlang Relay XII - FINISHED!!

This was fun! I hope I don't miss the sign-ups for the next one. Any idea on when they might begin? For the last few years I’d say we’ve averaged two relays a year. One in the summer and another in the winter holiday period. There is however nothing stopping people from organising relays at other t...

Re: CBB Conlang Relay XII - ONGOING (signups remain open)

Maybe next time we need to get a bit more on the same page with the concept? [...] Surely the point of the exercise is to see how wildly the text can change accidentally, through translation, rather than how much we can intentionally embellish or alter the story? I agree. Perhaps there should be mo...

Re: Canocua (ona:taʔwę): an Iroquoian conlang

It’s cool that your lateral affricate corresponds to sibilant affricates in the other langs. Nitpick though: considering Cl clusters in Proto-Iroquoian and Proto-Northern-Iroquoian are already very rare as it is, if not nonexistent. I don’t think that’s true. Just as a couple of examples, hr and hrj...

Re: Canocua (ona:taʔwę): an Iroquoian conlang

I’m curious to know how the lateral affricate developed, especially given the absence of a lateral approximant. If I were to hazard I guess, I suppose Cl clusters could have turned into the lateral affricate while the lateral approximant merged with /j w/ but please, prove me entirely wrong! [:D]

Re: CBB Conlang Relay XII - ONGOING (signups remain open)

Well no wonder they won so easily - they've only translated the first half! [xD] The initial text was only 97 words... we seem to have neatly grouped the participants into "will tend to translate tersely" and "will tend to translate verbosely", somehow! [:O] Ok, that's super weird - when the text p...

Update: I’m currently composing my Dánıdoo text and all is well, but I’m going to need a few extra days. Apologies for the delay.

Re: What did you accomplish today?

Aren’t the Scandinavian definite articles from hinn ← *jainaz, cognate with English yon?

hestur + hinn → hesturinn
etc.

By popular demand,
i'll be joining this relay with Yashuhay. The latest you can put me the best, give or take.
I would like to participate and could I please be placed right after loglorn?

I’ll perhaps be using TLFKAT or a speedlanged version thereof.

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I started thinking about Híí again after not doing anything conlanging-related for two months at least. Rastattuùâtẓax ra<sta<t<tu>ù>-à>t>ẓ-à-x "I eat fish found only in the west." These words are the reason I enjoy Alál. I enjoy Alál for a whole host of reasons, but I concur that the incredibly spe...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

How likely is it for prefixed subject/object clitics to not interact with vowel harmony The scope of vowel harmony is extremely language specific. Harmony can be either progressive or regressive (or both) and may apply to some affixes but not to others. It is not necessary for you to “demote” your ...
