Re: A Sketch of a caddoan language, Skiri Pawnee
Vowels: The Restricted Rules There are four rules that apply to certain sequences of vowels that only apply in certain sequences of morphemes. These are the restricted rules, which typically contrast against the general unrestricted rules that will follow in the next section. 1R Dominant -i- There ...

Re: A Sketch of a caddoan language, Skiri Pawnee
I'm in the process of preparing a fairly large post on the phonolological sound-change rules at present. Sorry for the delay. I'll post it asap.

If anyone ever tracks down that grammar by Parks, I'll be forever indebted to them.

Hahaha. Ok, not so large a number. Sorry for the confusion. I meant "in comparison with Caddo".A large number of resources you say?

Re: A Sketch of a caddoan language, Skiri Pawnee
Feel free to send questions if there is anything you specifically want to hear about. I'm going to begin similar to the thread on Caddo, starting with the phonology and sound change rules, following this by moving into the grammar and the polysynthetic character of Skiri Pawnee later.

A Sketch of a caddoan language, Skiri Pawnee
A Sketch of Skiri Pawnee, a caddoan language. A while ago, I wrote a short sketch of Caddo, mostly outlining it's phonological rules and the contractions that occur when morphemes combine. I had big ambitions with that thread at the time I opened it, but apart from an excellent book which describes...

Re: Lesson/Guide Requests
Hey guys. I haven't posted for quite a while now. Sorry for that. It was a long time ago now, but I once started a thread for Caddo. I had big ambitions for that thread but I got occupied with other things unfortunately. Still, it was a fairly good resource for learning a little about sound change r...

Re: What did you accomplish today?
This is not really related to grammar or vocab building but the thread is titled “What did you accomplish today”, so I think it's relevant. Today, I bought a 2017 diary. I plan to write in it with my most developed conlang every day, hopefully helping me to become more fluent in it and work out some...

Re: CBB Speedlanging Weekend III
Count me in. My involvement may be a little sporadic, but I'd like to get involved in this. I rarely find constraints to be anything but inspiring, just as long as there is some kind of naturalness or balance that can be salvaged from it. Finding a way to make a hideously unnatural set of features c...

Re: Conscripts that don't accurately display phonemes?
Sounds great and I'd love to see it. I have 13 characters and I need 53. I will post it here when I have the whole script. :) That's so weird! I just developed the outline of a (i) proto-lang*, (ii) and I just recently decided it needs a moraic-syllabary, (iii) which needs exactly 53 symbols! *see ...

Re: Caddo sketch and Q/A
For anyone curious about actually learning some Caddo phrases, you can check out this link. The database is downloadable. The pronunciation system used is not professional, but it's functional. As far as lexical resources go, it's the most comprehensive I could find. Enjoy! https://opendata.socrata....

Re: Caddo sketch and Q/A
Aspect in Caddo: Part One Most of the TAM morphemes tend to be fusional or “portmanteau-ish”, indicating a combination of TAM, as well as other notions together within a given morpheme. I will try to show their various uses and any co-occurrence restrictions as I go along. Also, I should note that ...

TAM in Caddo There is a lot to get through in this subject, so I think I'm gonna spread it out over at least a few posts. There are around 200 TAM morphemes in Caddo, the vast majority of which are found in the first prefix position (see above), and apart from five of these which function derivatio...

Re: Caddo sketch and Q/A
Sorry for being away for so long! I lost my copy of Caddo Verb Morphology since my last post here so I almost gave up on this thread, but luckily for me, I was able to track down an old pdf version of the book. I'll begin posting again very soon. Btw, would anyone be interested in a secondary thread...

Re: On the subject of writing a textbook
Start with sentences, the pretty basic ones. You need not explain every grammatical quirk required to form those sentences at first sight. Start with greetings, and continue with basic dialogs while explaining the grammar part by part. If it was enough just to know all grammatical rules to be able ...

Re: Nine Phoneme Conlang (with oodles of allophones)
I'm extremely impressed by your allophonic rules. Thanks! I was inspired at first by the way English words are forced to fit into the limited phoneme set of Hawaiian by its speakers. Put together with a few other languages (Caddo, Blackfoot, Vietnamese, etc..) and their sound-change processes, I ar...

Re: Nine Phoneme Conlang (with oodles of allophones)
Orthography I don't want to keep writing with IPA characters, because it's annoying jumping between keyboards, so I'm going to create a simpler orthography: / ʔ / [ ' ] / h / [ h ] / k / [ k ] / l / [ l ] / t / [ t ] / ɣ / [ gh ] / g / [ g ] / ŋ / [ ng ] / d / [ d ] / j / [ y ] / ç / [ ch ] / c / [...

Re: Nine Phoneme Conlang (with oodles of allophones)
The Vowel Solidity Rules The rules are not so complex but they enforce themselves in a few different contexts. To summarize the way they work, they are the small set of rules that prevents an / i / or / u / vowel from being subject to the regressive palatalization and labialization processes as they...
