I'm curious Khemehekis --- are you successful?
Is it because of all that stuff, or in spite of it?
Also: what actually is success?
Should also note that I don't hold with pop astrology / individual astrology. There are other kinds of astrology that seem to work better.

Re: On tornadoes and why I think they're underused in speculative fiction and worldbuilding
I just wanted to commend this impassioned plea for the humble tornado! I haven't specifically written about tornadoes in the World, though they do figure in some folklores connected with besom gods. I might have to give that some more consideration!

Would this happen to refer to their equivalent of lawyers (ambulance chasers) or morticians (grave robbers)? Elemtilas! Nice to see you on here again! More like ambulance-chasers than morticians. As is often the case, I'm just passing through. When I do anymore it's the worldbuilding forum I stop b...

Re: 12 Word Cartographer – my process for drawing maps
Hey fellow conlangers. Over the last months, I've been working on a process for map drawing that would be simple (my personal target was: a procedure that can be expressed in 12 words) but would still implement some basics of plate tectonics and create better maps than something completely random o...

Today I created the ya ya nang, a red flower of Chatony that grows on graves, Chatony being where the nila bioswath (Dorsals) live. It's my first non-animal creation for that planet and bioswath. I needed the word to provide an etymon for "vulture", as in one who profits from another's/ot...

I might also note here that -stern / -stron variation is not unheard of in Scots (and even English). Shrove Tuesday is also called Fastern Eve or Fastron Eve; and the wee door of a castle or town can be a postern or a postron gate. The heel of a horse is a pastern or pastron. Also cistern and sestro...

In which English dialects, and/or at what times and/or places, were the terms Northron, Southron, Eastron, Westron, used instead of the terms Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western? …. I can remember my mother’s mother, and others of her generation in East Texas, using Southron (and IIANM Northron). ...

It is a z/OS option that specifies the "national language" of the given runtime environment. Maybe that's what you were thinking of?

On the interesting matter of dogs sniffing out cancer and the potential for werecanids to do the same, I'll just set this on the table and slip back into the shadows.

Film making --- cool! Is this a hobby of yours? I'd definitely recommend poking around Ebay and Goodwill for some interesting equipment, if you don't already have it! As for your question, yeah, just go on Common App and apply! It's a US / Canadian thing, so no worries about applying to some school ...

(There are also "nicknames", a bit more formal than *our* "nicknames", but a bit more free-form then *their* "formal names".) Do people acquire new names from going through adulthood/marriage rituals? Yes, and/or other events; some by their own choice. These are all gr...

A New IE Origin Theory
I came across an article on some new work on the geographical origins of Indo-European speakers and thought it might be of interest to the community. Also, I am hoping that Joerg might offer some comment on this.
