Re: Mbath

i like it. two questions: 1) can the prenasalized stops contrast with sequences? e.g. you say /mp/ is pronounced as /mb/ but is that distinct from the single phoneme /mb/ or are they merged? 2) Did you mean to link to imgbb.com or is that some copypaste injection? Thanks, Pabappa Thank you! :) 1) I...

Re: Mbath

Verbs! Verbs are the morphologically most complex part of Mbath, and convey not only information about the action, but also about the arguments, such as the grammatical number of arguments, as well as the definiteness of the S/O argument (subject of intransitive clauses, object of transitive clause...

Mbath

I've been tinkering around on a new conlang, as usual starting out with a premise - this time a phonology with underlying phonemes whose realisation makes analysis a bit of a pain - and then going down rabbit hole after rabbit hole, mostly grammatical ones, and changing everything time and again, an...

Re: CBB Conlang Relay XII - ONGOING (signups remain open)

I will take 1-2 days longer than expected as my fridge just blew and I have to use my time I kept aside for working on the relay on organising a replacement [>:D]

Received, just before bedtime! So I won't get around to taking an actual look and hopefully start before tomorrow.

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Are there other languages that have two different words/lexemes for "to be" with a similar sense of soy/estar in Spanish? Or a different sense, but still two or more "to be" verbs? I know Japanese has two, with one being used for animate, and the other inanimate. Korean has 있다 (ittda) as locative c...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

I've also put in a new loan: Early Bokisig /helbuhE/ covered both "to be bitter" and "to be sour", but the Classical variety wanted to be able to differentiate. So CBKSG /hel'bu:/ came to cover only "bitter", while <mekra>"acidpear" was loaned to coin the new meaning "sour", becoming /mek'la:/ [+1]...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

I have started work on the next incarnation of Bokisig, the Classical variety (CBKSG), on the ConWorkShop , and derived a hundred words so far from my Early Bokisig words via sound changes, also involving some semantic shifts. I've also put in a new loan: Early Bokisig /helbuhE/ covered both "to be ...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

I've further amended my history of the Bokisig Confederation , sometimes a bit drastically, and added two maps (sadly a grid line shows up quite prominently as a black bar in large zooms such as these). I also think I might push the timeline for when Early Bokisig changes into Classical back a bit. ...

Re: CBB Conlang Relay XII - SIGNUPS OPEN - STARTING Saturday 11th July

I want to take part, with either Bokisig (Early or Classical, depending on how early or late it'll be my turn), or possibly Mbath, a new lang that at the moment doesn't really have that much grammar, and basically zero vocab.

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

@Khemehekis I'm currently putting some cities onto my map, and also want there to be two cities in a kingdom called Nedusu that is descended from the Txabao people coming to the area (around PS8300, the cities may have been founded later). Would you mind coming up with two good truly native Txabao n...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

I've put a bit more history up on the wiki, and there are over 600 words, plus a couple of grammar articles on the CWS page for Early Bokisig.

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

Three weeks since the last post on here [:O] I've kept working on Early Bokisig despite not publishing anything on here or fandom-wiki; vocabulary items entered on ConWorkShop are now up to 350, and I've recorded my sound changes in the PhoMo format used on there, so that I can more easily create th...

Re: Tulemo

It's actually uralt without <h>, though it's pronounced the same, and is, as far as I know and wiktionary can be trusted, unrelated to Uhr , the former stemming from a Proto-Germanic root and the latter from Latin hora . ur- is a common prefix for anything that's old, and e.g. also used to refer to ...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

The Txabao might attack from the west, sensing the weakness of the still fairly young confederation; or trade ties with the Txabao are strengthened, and there is consequently more cultural contact. I feel the latter might be better, unless Khemehekis has his heart set on a war around 8450PS [:D] I'...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

I'm confused. I thought the Txabao would exist and splinter a bit before the rise of the Neduki and the proto-group itself is not the Neduki. Yes that's exactly how I had thought of it too; to give an approximate date, in what I've sketched so far the Txabao would first cross the mountains around 8...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

I've posted a fair bit about the political landscape and the structure of the Bokisig Confederation on the wiki . Regarding contact with the other peoples of that time, that could mean: The Txabao might attack from the west, sensing the weakness of the still fairly young confederation; or trade ties...

Re: Damta: A collaborative world

The sun, however, got mad (about the theft) and did come out again for five hundred years. I believe you mean "did not come out again". Great story -- I've never heard a myth quite like that before! Thank you for the compliment as well as spotting the error - I'd noticed it myself even, but only co...
