Re: Philosophy
Anyway, sorry if we've gotten off on the wrong foot. Let's try again... When I was your age (I think? Well, give or take a bit), the two philosophical books that I really valued were: - Sophie's World. It's a postmodern YA novel that's also an introduction to the history of philosophy. The novel si...

Re: Philosophy
Are you, by any chance, a teenager? [your views, both on ethics and on grammar, are poorly thought-out. It's true that death and birth are both famously 'divide by zero' problems for naive utilitarianism - but this is of course entirely sophistical, as it delivers completely different 'solutions' d...

Philosophy
What are your-PL philosophical views? I'm not sure if there's a large overlap in the people interested in conlanging and the people interested in philosophy, but the only other conlanger I know is interested in philosophy, and I am too. I personally consider myself an act utilitarian, and a rather.....

Re: More People Claim to Have Seen a Ghost Than a Trans Person
Did you intend to say ghostitive verbs there or was the the algorithm [:D] ? I'm using both, so I have ghost set to replace but if it sees a larger word "example: ghost" it'll replace using that instead :) I'm reading Kiwikami's post without your filter, and it appears as g h o s t i t i v e. More People Claim to Have Seen a Ghost Than a Trans Person
This lead me to wasting my time programming a text replacement add-on to replace all words associated with ghost identities to ghost related words.
Obviously it's not perfect, but I'm proud in multiple ways :)

Tronun - Idiot. Based off trump. Additionally in that map are tronen, to talk unintelligently, and tren, to be incorrect.
Also in that map is strat, an stupid or rude person, which is related to both Trump (more distantly) and "straight." If you're about to be offended over that, don't. It's a joke.

I came out to my parents today!
My dad was cool with it. He just asked if there were any boys who had caught my eye, to which I replied "David Tennant."
My mom didn't care.
It wasn't exactly darting to the nearest place to buy a bisexual pride flag, but it was a generally positive response and I'm happy about it :)

Re: Is there a way to display how strongly a consonant is pronounced in IPA?
An example of this would be the French word "comprendre," meaning understand. The IPA for this (as retrieved from a website, I'm not sure how accurate it is) is "kɔ̃pʁɑ̃dʁ," however when I listened to an audio of the IPA reading the final ʁ was very light. I am uncertain on how to attach a file, so...

Re: Is there a way to display how strongly a consonant is pronounced in IPA?
Perhaps you could explain what you mean by "lightly"? Well I'm not the best at explaining things, but if you were to say it quieter, I guess? A consonant that is barely able to be heard but still there. I wonder whether you may be mistaken in your analysis of what you're hearing? To the best of my ...

Is there a way to display how strongly a consonant is pronounced in IPA?
I'm going to be the most recent 3 posts in beginners corner, lucky me, but in my most recent conlang the final consonant is pronounced extremely lightly unless there's a vowel in front of it, almost like French but with at least something there. How would I use IPA to express that?

Re: The Sixth Conversation Thread
Just a random thought: I mainly use a Mac when doing conlang stuff because it's so easy to type accented characters on a Mac (as simple as holding down "e" and then pressing "5" to get an e with a macron). Because Lihmelinyan accents every stressed vowel and uses macrons for long vowels, this had b...

The IPA didn't preserve the new paragraph, and I had to change the word order a lot to fit the grammar, but all in all it turned out pretty well I think. Re: Weird Dream Thread
When I was a younger kid, I think about 11 or so (I'm currently 14), there was this one dream that I've mostly forgotten. I was at a huge fair at my school. It was much bigger than my actual school's grounds, probably spanning a square mile or so. I was running around with my friend, Kathleen, when ...
