Re: Writing an art review of a conlang - any suggestions?

I have to criticize a single published work. Is there anything of that nature produced by Tolkien on Quenya? It's looking like this may not be a workable project. I'd like to be unique and choose a conlang for my review, but I'm not sure how I would do that. Perhaps I could show the significance of ...

Re: Writing an art review of a conlang - any suggestions?

I guess it has to be on a specific work of art, not an art in general. That means I would have to review a text or guide to the lang, not the lang itself. Any suggestions? I'm leaning towards Quenya right now because it seems to be the most well-known and studied.

Writing an art review of a conlang - any suggestions?

In my English class I've been assigned to write a paper reviewing a work of art. I'd like to review a conlang, but I'm not sure which one to choose. Ideally, it should be an artlang that's relatively well known. I was considering Verdurian. Does anyone have any suggestions or places to look? P.S. I'...

Re: Conlangs and Copyright

Using J. C. Nesfield's Outline of English Grammar 1921 as an example, if I were to begin by teaching how to distinguish the various parts of speech, starting with nouns then moving through pronouns, adjectives, verbs, prepositions, adverbs etc. I wouldn't be obligated to credit him (though it would...

Re: Conlangs and Copyright

But even if it isn't violating copyright, isn't there still some sort of requirement to give credit to sources that helped you make your language (vocabulary, grammar techniques, etc.)? Is that plagiarism if you don't?

Re: Conlangs and Copyright

So, basically, ideas or concepts can't be copyrighted? I heard that ideas themselves can't be copyrighted, but once they are expressed, that's protected. So the concept of the textbook structure itself can't be copyrighted, but the structure in that book is copyrighted. If you don't mind me asking a...

Re: Conlangs and Copyright

Are you merely using the same general structure or template as some textbook (like the same sets of titles or subtitles)? IMO this would probably not have a sufficient level of originality to be copyrighted. Are you copying body text, but substituting words in Latin with words in your conlang? Then...

Conlangs and Copyright

Hola all! Been a while since I've posted. Anyway... I was wondering how copyright laws would apply to conlangs. For example: if I'm making a language based off the Semitic language family and am using Hebrew and Arabic textbooks for help with the vocabulary and grammar, do I need to cite those books...

Re: Dişperşetàt

Ah... I think I get it. I actually was just working with that. So for example conlang is "lagna şècrarem" (literally "language that is created). I believe it's called the subjunctive case(?). It changes for person, so "my conlang" would be "lagna mècrarem". The thi...

How do you form relative-clauses? What's a relative clause? [:$] I probably deal with it, but I just don't know what the terms means. -Phonotactics/syllable structure Words most commonly begin with a consonant and finish with a vowel (grammatical markers alter this quite often). A "CVCV" ...

Re: Dişperşetàt

The orthography is a bit confusing, so I think having some examples of transliteration would help. Where is this spoken? Do you have any sort of history designed for this? Here; I'll try to simplify the major differences. In vowels, <i> and <e> make "i" and "e" only if they're f...

Dişperşetàt

Dişperşetàt is a Romance-based conlang that I have gotten pretty far with. I prefer a-priori conlangs, but I'm creating this one simply so that I can learn and use it quickly and soon. I have a fair amount of knowledge of the Romance family, so I thought it would make for a good one to base it off. ...
