So my idea of creating a language to make explicit psychology and economics didn't go over well. It leaves me wondering what design goals meet with a favorable reaction on this board.
So here's a chance to boast about what your conlang (or your favorite conlang) was designed to do.

Re: A language for economics, psychology and seduction
The last time someone tried this, we got Lojban. [:'(] This reminds me of Laádan but with the word 'people' substituted for 'women.' I'm flattered to hear my language idea compared to Lobjan and Laadan. You say they failed, but they're both well-known conlangs and I'm interested in the territory th...

Re: Children of Conlangers
TURNS OUT YOU HAVEN'T FUCKING READ WHAT I SAID! I'm sorry? Was there a major point I missed? There are precious few native speakers of Esperanto -- estimated between 200 and 2,000. It might be hard to track them down for an opinion. That's still a lot of people compared to most con langs. Now I'm c...

A language for economics, psycpsychology and seduction
I'm in the early stages of designing a language for economics, psychology and seduction. The basic idea is to make explicit how people think and what they value in order to facilitate commerce and social interaction. Let's brainstorm. What should my language have in it?

Re: Children of Conlangers
Of course, in the case of teaching your children a small or even dying minority language, the difference is that speaking in a language that is your native language to your children will improve emotional bonding remarkably, and reduce the risk that they get social problems (compared to others in s...

Let us know what you think of it?
FYI, I also liked Okrent's book.

Um, maybe we should ask children of conlangers THEIR opinion
Well, thanks for bringing up some repressed memories there :/ Your parents did that too? [:|] FWIW I find many of the early posts in this thread arrogant and pretentious. Instead of moralizing and a rush to judgement based on personal opinion, wouldn't it be worth asking what native Esperanto speak...

From Elvish to Klingon- anyone gunna read it?
It seems there is a new book on conlangs coming out at the end of the month. Anyone plan on getting it?

Re: NaCoCreMo?
I'd give this a try. Does anyone have any contacts at the LCS? If we get official support, they'll probably be the ones to decide the month. Otherwise I suggest someone start a poll in order to figure out the month that works best for us on this forum.

Re: Little known Ewok conlang
There is information on the Jawa language, in which the concept of seven apparently doesn't exist. Seriously: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10... Facepalm to end all facepalms. This could be explained if 7 was a taboo number that couldn't be used without attracting bad mojo. Either it was so taboo that i...

Re: I think you are too hard on SW.
You need to look up and understand why the creator of Mandalorian didn't include plurals. Personally, I am tolerant of stupid explanations when there are other valid justifications for what writers write. Anyway, according to http://mandalorians.wikia.com/wiki/Mando'a the language DOES have plurals...

I think you are too hard on SW.
You guys are too cynical. They become disappointing when you actually investigate it and hear stories about actors reading scripts based on garbled natlangs but (although the languages probably aren't as sophisticated as the Navi language from Avatar) they were the first major SF movie to give the i...

Little known Ewok conlang
Few people know about it, but Lucas made an Ewok conlang even before Star Trek came out with Klingon.
As far as I know, it was never released to the public, but there's one short bilingual text:

What do you suppose we can infer about the language?

Re: How important is accessibility?
Aren't the Eskimo and Algonquian scripts just like that? Of course, for those, rotating the character changes its pronunciation as well as its meaning. Mine would too. Egyptian hieroglyphics could be written in any order (or at least either left-to-right or right-to-left); the symbols that had a &q...

How important is accessibility?
I'm considering a language where letters are rotated in order to change the meaning of words, sort of like how tarot cards are read differently when inverted. I am worried that this would make the language unintelligible to dyslectics. Is this a worthwhile sacrifice? Is there a way to invert letters...

Books for con lang inspiration
What books have you read for con lang inspiration, and what did you think of them? I've read: Hidden Codes and Grand Designs - not that great but it does give you ideas for designing scripts. The Major Languages of the World - Too dense for me, and only a fraction of it is useful for art langs The L...

Re: Alien natlangs
By "alien" I did not just mean foriegn to one's nation but something distinctly different from most mainstream languages. When I posted, I had not checked the Wikipedia page and had not realized that it was ideographic. The geometric configuration I found in the book A History of Writing (...
