RE: Making a Computer that runs on Magic
I just saw this on Because Science https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdmODVYPDLA Reminds me of Elemtilas' use of Dwimmery in his conworld. Very interesting to see! Could give one a different source of (theoretically workable) ideas to approach the conjuration of a Turing Machine, and therefore compute...

From the Modicone Due to hosting issues, I have had to trim the forum down. All posts older than 5 years have been removed, as well as several game threads. ⸘‽⸮ :con: English Sorry to be picayune, but should've tried harder to save this thread from the Ourobouros-treatment. Crazy smart fellow, that Dr. Ringe. I had the pleasure of taking a class under him in Ancient Greek Historical Grammar… oh, about 587 Trine ago…
Looks to be a juicy read!

Really, really, really REALLY would love for linguist & fantasy author Alan Garner to dig up and post some/all of his original notes on the Skeksish language on the 'Net. But, of course, great age, possible copyright infringements and/or lack of perceived public interest prolly prevent him. [:S]...

Too busy from the start of the Academic year to be too involved in any particular thing to "deep end" depth. But I am anxiously waiting to see full episodes of "Dark Crystal: Age of Resistence". The original movie, upon which "Age of Resistence" is based, was one of the...

[ Galaxy: baby shark (a trick answer: English 'galaxy' comes from the Greek word for a dogfish, a small shark*) You're talking about γαλεός , ¿? As another possibility, one could use the possibly related γαλέη 'weasel' (mustelid), and said a galaxy was something like an Ermine-Cloud . :wat:

I'm sure you have your own quick & dirty ways of finding the Greek antecedents of Spanish towns and cities, but if you can get your hands on this map supplement from Nat Geo (DEC 1982) - it had many many town names in Latin/Greek/Phoenician around the Mediterranean. [:)] ORIGINAL 1982-12 DECEMBE...

Almost reaching the grand old age of 13 years, I think His Holiness may now being dying... https://i.imgur.com/l3tvAhk.jpg He's been following me round since January 2009. I don't want him to go. His Holiness looks especially serene and wise in that photo. He reminds me of Master Oogway from Kung F...

Re: What are you listening to/watching?
Spurred by your offering, Xonen, I looked for some similar casts/recordings on Soundcloud for Coptic and Carpatho-Rusyn. Only chants in Coptic and a lot of "Coptic" themed casts in Arabic (a few in English). A few more offerings in Carpatho-Rusyn.

I really like the joint-stock idea. [;)] Historically, it was good enough for the Pilgrims, Puritans, Catholics who wanted to escape a culture that oppressed them in England. This was also a similar reason for the migrations Of the various groups who would become The Pennsylvania Germans, and for S...

I'm not sure that's a good idea. Designing your ship to land is hugely difficult and expensive - imagine trying to float a city! - and there's no real need for it. What you'd actually do is "anchor" in orbit and portage everything down to the planet on shuttle. [and if a colony ship is a ...
