Re: Language practice thread

I know that there are many synonyms to "bonito", but I really don't know that much Spanish... Kau bisa berkata "bello" atau "hermoso". Tapi setidaknya dalam dialek aku, dua kata itu mempunyai rasa yang cukup puitis/arkais/menggelikan. You could say "bello" or...

Je n'ai pas décidé de l'étudier encore, mais j'aime bien les créoles. Tok Pisin n'est pas si cool et c'est trop 'pidginy', trop de 'long' et 'bilong'. Je l'aime écouter quand même. I haven't quite decided to study it yet, but I love creoles. Tok Pisin is as cool as Kreyòl and it's a bit too pidginy...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Is this too many vowels? /a ɒː e ɛː ɪ iː o ɔː ʊ uː/ diphthongs: /aɪ̯ eɪ̯ aʊ̯̜ eʊ̯̜ oʏ̯ oʊ̯/ These would supposedly have come from: /a aː e eː i iː o oː u uː/ diphtongs: same. I'd unround [ɒː] to [ɑː] since there is already a long open-mid back rounded vowel, and assuming you don't need a phonemic c...

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

in French, nasalized vowels are contrastive .... before nasal codas ( vinmes ) Is there a different but otherwise-identically-pronounced word whose first syllable has a non -nasal vowel and a nasal coda? If not, this is not a case of being "contrastive", and doesn't prove your point. A mi...

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Are there any languages with a velar nasal allophone of /n/ in intervocalic position (probably after back vowels)? Some Japanese dialects do this for intervocal /n/ between all vowels, and I think a few have the velar nasal for initial /n/ as well. I thought that was intervocalic /g/ . I've never r...

Re: What do you like in languages?

Small phonemic inventories with few or no phonemic fricatives (but with phonetic ones), some tones, phonemic stress, moderately complex syllable structures, complex allophony, allomorphy, and sandhi effects, reduplication, serial verbs, topic-comment sentences, null anaphora, noun classifiers, clusi...

OK, thank you Micamo.
So if no one has any objections on a conlang with a very small phonemic inventory and a moderately complex syllabic structure, that's how mine is gonna be.

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Rotokas exists, therefore that kind of phonology is plausible. Also, things that might look to us like they're unstable and would just merge into new phonemes might not look like that for the speakers of that lang. For example, English hasn't developed phonemic nasalisation from coda nasal consonan...

Sí, bueno, la verdad es que no era auténtico acento italiano, sino más bien el acento estereotipado que pondría cualquier español medio para imitar a un italiano. Que además, puestos a ser estereotípicos y ofensivos, yo le habría puesto acento árabe. Pero bueno, sencillamente terrible... Watto es it...

Re: Tema de jamonada

El otro día volví a ver Star Wars I - La amenaza fantasma doblada al español y me di cuenta de que Watto, el alien que tenía a Anakin y a su madre como esclavos, tiene un fuerte acento italiano. ¿En la versión original también?
Me pareció bastante ofensivo. [>_<]
