Hello. I am back! (I came back when I accidentally clicked a bookmark)
This website looks different (but better!)
If you don't remember me, I have researched linguistics on Wikipedia, finding my love for linguistics when I created a modified alphabet for English.
I realise this may be misplaced, but I felt this post was necessary.

What kind of music are you into making? Is it for your world or some genre of the primary world?

Hey, so I've been using this board for reference while I get started, but I thought I'd go ahead and sign up and say hi and maybe ask a question or two if they arise. I've got a couple of weeks and a few hundred words in on my first conlang, Líosa, which has been a massive learning experience. Basically first I tried to understand everything about linguistics with no background before I got started, to try and not make any stupid decisions, but then got overwhelmed and frustrated so I just jumped in and realized that's way more fun (which is how I usually start new hobbies). I'm an American English speaker and still hopelessly at a loss with retroflex and palatal sounds, no matter how many videos I watch of people demonstrating them. Anyway, thanks for all the help you've already given me!

If you're curious, a little bit about Líosa: It has no voiced plosives or velar sounds (except for /w/), is very isolating with a lot of particles, and also doesn't use adjectives. I'm not sure if the no adjectives thing will stick in the long term, but I like it. I might make a full post about it, but being so green it feels...presumptuous.

Also I had a mouse scratching in my bedroom wall this morning so I sat awake and read about Pirahã for an hour. Pretty wild.

Hi all,

Scy here. A Brit who lives in Shanghai and who works as an English teacher. I speak, in addition to English, Mandarin, and know enough to read French, German, Spanish, Latin and Anglo-Saxon with minimal reference to dictionaries. I can struggle through a few others with a lot of referencing.

I'm currently working on two conlangs (which share a script, but only because I like my script) - Audhrinn, a highly inflicting a priori artlang, and Eald Leodh, a bastardized Old English (both conlangs for a pseudo-historical fantasy novel I’m writing). The novel's called The Priest and is set in a post-Crusades Britain in which the Christian/Moor conflict ended abruptly when God decided to annihilate mankind with heat - heat in the form of a desert centred in Jurusalem and slowly, like a cancer, eating its way over the world. In the novel, virtually all of Europe is a blistering wasteland, and Britain is now home to millions of refugees. In the melting pot of cultures, and in the realization that God intends to kill everyone, priests now serve the role of preventing worship and of instigating deliberate acts of desecration and blasphemy against mankind's divine enemy.

Yes, there are some rather obvious analogies to the modern world in there... Anyway, the conlangs contribute to all this. Eald Leodh is the 'official' language of Britain - a puritan revision of Old English to remove cultural contamination. Audhrinn, on the other hand, is a 'divine' language used by God's agents. I'm going to need another, lingua franca conglang, that mixes Old English with Latin, Old French, Spanish, Arabic, etc, spoken by the multicultural inhabitants of Britain. I'm open to anyone wanting to help with that one!

Anyway, that's me in my nutty shell.
By the way, I chose my 'online' name before somebody else appropriated it for the purposes of projecting liquids in naughty films (in case anyone was going to ask or point it out) [O.O]

I'm Bruce.
I have always been interested in linguistics and the construction of languages ever since I was a kid. This was partly due to having to learn Mandarin Chinese as a second language and Spanish in school. Recently, my interest in languages and conlangs has been rekindled due to finding about David Peterson's languages. I've decided to join this forum because it provides resources and community for the creation of languages.

Currently, I am considering the creation of a language which would use marginal features found in English, making it very different from English, yet possessing features that English-speakers would be able to recognize as part of their own language given training.

Hello everybody, I’m back.

After doing research into making languages and being far away from here for 3 years I might as well come back. I’m much more tamed now and not as crazy.

I still am working on new languages
And creating songs on my keyboard. I use FL Studio actually seeing that you’d mentioned it. I create mainly children’s music, pop songs, and music for my YouTube series in my conlangs and English about a group of aliens who love to do what we all like to do (they’re just like humans in that sense) and go on adventures. I will also make some videos explaining my conlang. I’ve also been getting into using a Yamaha and Casio keyboard to compose.

So,
Hâlò!

Hi, I go by Random8k or Random, people call me either.

I got into conlanging (although I didn't know it was called that) some years ago, when I was learning Spanish in high school. I like to worldbuild, and I have a fictional world with a race of cat-people that I've been working on and off over the past several years. I made a "language" for them that was basically English, but using Spanish grammar. The idea of making an actual conlang came to me a few months back, and I've been working on it, as my schedule allows (in college, studying to be an IT professional). Besides my amateur linguistic/language interests, I also like to study history, military tactics, and I like gaming, in both digital and tabletop fashion. Oh, and Netflix binging, can't forget that! [:P]

The conlang I'm working on, Qianshogō, a protolang that I want to develop to an appreciable degree, before using sound changes and the like to change it into a daughter language that my people speak today. I intend for the protolang to live on as the lingua franca of my people's "courtly speech", and also as the general language of government, while most commoners and lower nobility speak the daughter language. I had a mental thought of people receiving mail in very stilted "officalese" and having to go to a translation house or something to actually understand it, and it made me chuckle.

They're a very celestial empire-ish nation, with an emphasis on social hierarchy, filial piety, and honor/formality, so I've tried to base the language around those concepts. Like for instance, speakers take into account the degree of "difference" between each other, so the "lower" in the conversation will refer to themselves with humbler forms or in the 3rd person, while referring to the "superior" with a degree of respect due their station (too much respect is also a bad thing!), and vice versa for the "superior", who will refer to them with pronouns/conjugate things according to their appropriate status.

Anyways, that's pretty much me in a nutshell, and I hope to get along well with all of you!
