What can I say? It doesn't fit above, put it here. Also the location of board rules/info.

The CBB is 15 years old!

Post by Aevas »

On 4 August 2020 the CBB turned 15 years old! As usual I forgot about the anniversary on said day, but at least I got close enough!

🥳

At the start in 2005, the CBB was one of many peripheral forums for these arts. Today it has grown into one of the major hubs for conlanging and conworlding on the internet. It's certainly been a journey!

I want to express my thanks to all past and present members for bringing this community together and making it vibrant. I also want to thank the mods for taking such good care of it. I hope that we will see our community continue to grow together!

Am looking forward to Kankonian's silver anniversary, a short year away! By then, you should have that 100k word boundary busted to residual dust clouds!

I'd concur that that it is a major hub for language invention. Certainly ranks in the upper echelon with Conlang-L and ZBB.

Apart from specialised places like the Ill Bethisad Project, CBB is really about the only place in town for long form geopoetical discussion. Reddit, to be honest, is too ephemeral and a small step above Discord, which is basically chit-chat. Neither are good platforms for either language invention or worldbuilding. Conculture is in permanent mothballs. CBB is much quieter than I'd like, but at least it's active.

Congratulations indeed!

Elemtilas, you ought to throw a thirtieth birthday party for some of your languages! I know that at least some of them are getting untrustworthy, if they aren't there already!

15 years?! Whoop whoop!

I think I've been around for the last 10 of them (I think I joined in 2010 as I was finishing university, but I honestly can't remember properly) and this is one of the few places I visit every day, unless I have no internet access (that's actually basically the only thing that stops me, lol. I've logged in during my breaks at work just to pop by and see how everyone's doing).

There are users who haven't logged in in years that I wish would come back, but obviously people have their own lives and priorities, but at the same time, there have been some really awesome people on the Board who are still around as well, and I can't wait to see how things go in the future.

I've seen people over the years saying that forums are dead or dying, but for this place to have carried on is so cool, and I think Elemtilas is right in that, because of the subject, this sort of place is great, even if it can be a little quieter than we'd like sometimes.

One thing I'm always really happy about is that this forum has had more good times than bad. We've had drama and we've had a handful of users that have been at the centre of some really intense and flamey threads, but I'd say most of what we have is overwhelmingly pleasant. That's one of the reasons I keep coming back every day.

I might not post much or reply to other people's threads, but seeing everyone, for the most part, sharing in this hobby/craft/interest/passion/vice/whatever positively, helping each other out when we have questions, throwing ideas out there, has just been so good. And for that to have lasted 15 years?!

Awesome times, guys. Keep them coming! [:D]

Wow, 15 years old!

Similarly to sangi39, this board is one of the only websites I visit every day. For me, it's the only place online where I consistently interact with other people. I miss having the time to be as active on here as I once was, but of course I'm happy to now be healthy enough to be busy elsewhere.

I've been here for just a little over 7 years myself, I believe. I was 15 when I joined, actually! Thankfully, I've changed a lot, both as a conlanger and just as a person in general, since then. Looking back, there's a lot I would do differently. I can't stand my username, for instance. It's something a 15-year-old came up with on the spot without putting much thought into. Also, I'd love to be able to properly redo all the languages I ever posted on here, and I know I got into at least a few dumb arguments.

On the other hand, I've learned a lot from this board. I've gotten to see a lot of interesting projects develop and meet a lot of interesting people who share this obscure hobby. There are plenty of users I miss seeing around, and there have been some less than pleasant ones, too, but such is life, online or off.

I'm grateful that this board is still up and running after 15 years. Here's to the future! [:D]

Could be worse, you could've had the bright idea to throw an initial <X> into it...

Anyway, fifteen years? That kind of makes me feel old, but yeah, it's great that such ancient relics of a bygone era can still remain alive and well in this age of tubers and twittograms. Let's have cake.

Heh, I was 15 when I joined too and my username is very much a reflection of that. There's not a lot I would do differently although I'd be more organized about my conlang instead of creating new words in various threads and not keeping track of any of them.

I also learned that while I still enjoy conlanging, I now use this forum mostly for discussing natlangs. [:)]

My screenname was chosen on Sonib/Jaaaaaa's forum when I was 22. I wouldn't change it for $100.

I made my username up as a ten-year-old signing up for RuneScape, and it's just stuck since then... [:D]

I haven't been as active on this board as I'd like to have been, but I come and go, and it's always amazing to check back in and see what people have come up with since the last time I was around. This is easily the site/forum I've been a consistent member of the longest (I celebrated high school graduation on here, and am now halfway through a PhD) and while I barely know many of you (and know most of you less well than I'd like), I have barely-known you all for longer than I've barely-known the vast majority of my real-life friends and acquaintances. And I've loved watching so many of your languages develop. Silvish, Híí, Kankonian, all of the fascinating artistic and engelang-esque creations that have arisen on this board... And the conworlding, oh the conworlding - I've learned so much about constructing interesting and realistic societies and con-cultures from reading y'all's threads. Lots of good memories, and looking forward to many more!

I chose my name at about the same age, maybe as early as 20. Of course, much before that, there was no such thing as a "screen name". By the time I found CBB, there was just no question as to what name to use.

I was a kid when I joined too!
I remember having fun in-depth conversations and many notable quotes, among both current, inactive, and banned users (as in those who were permanently). I remember seeing this for the first time and joining I had to be a teen by then. I was 17 when I joined.

The members of the paleo-board have just reached their 10-year anniversary on the new CBB! (My anniversary, for instance, was on August 14.)
