Guess the Word in Germanic Conlangs
Re: Guess the Word in Germanic Conlangs
Potential candidates I'm thinking at the moment:
*balwą {evil, misfortune} (vowel and meaning fit, but the nasal doesn't)
*blōmô {flower} (vowel and nasal fit, but meaning's odd)
others I don't know?
Whistle once if I'm heading in the right direction.

Okay, then what I'm feeling is it either means flower judging/contest, or plain old judgement of evil/final judgement.
My answer is then the latter: final judgement/judgement of evil.

I knew someone would get that first root eventually. The Old Thietish word in question here is balwom, so related to *here*'s PrGmc *balwą; and it does mean evil or misfortune. The other half of the word is, of course, -domaz, an abstract noun termination: state or condition of; quality of.
bôôuumdomaz. 1.n. wickedness, evilmindedness; poison
Domaz as a noun does indeed mean judgement, sentence, fateful destruction, doom.
Excellent sleuthery!

Now I have to design a Germlang, so for the moment, if you guys feel like, you can translate Wario Toad's words until I'm ready:

this new thread/game.
If this word were to exist in Saadras, it would be Bålldamen . /bɔ:l.da.mən/
I have words for "evil", "wickedness", etc, so I deem that in Saadras it would mean more at "the (wrongful/misguided/willful) judgement in favor of evil (over good)" or "the victory of evil over good".
Good fun!
I have an easy one from Saadras, but I'll wait my turn.
Rych does not have a cognate in Saadras, but there is Küninjdamen /kwı.nıɲ.da.mən/, which mayhap share the same meaning (?)
As for Bamhas - bagmē bloma, blow me down: I dunno.

The first one could be cognate to German Reich or reich (meaning empire or rich), and the second one could translate as tree-hare maybe?

Dendrothaumology in action! These would look quite familiar to many Daine in the Eastlands.
Is this where we leap out of the rabbit good Sir Bedevere?

Re: Guess the Word in Germanic Conlangs
I have a limited amount of stuff I can say in Faloch so this a few sentences but don't worry. Faloch is kinda modernish Posteriori. It's from Late Old High German so it only started to diverge from Old German around 1250AD but it has a few diachronics that makes it different but I would say it's partly intelligible with most German Dialects. It's closest to Rhine Ruhr Dialects like the Düsseldorf Accent and Yiddish and Northern Swiss Dialects.
