Are any of those diacritics to indicate tone?

If so, is the tone at least partly resulting from the loss of a coda?

You can if you'd like. However, I personally haven't asked anything here for a few days because I've been busy, not because I'm stuck.

Did the first word end in *-az?

[info] Not cognate, but one of them has (and had) a very similar meaning, almost identical and partially overlapping.
