Sfaxi is an SOV language that I've been working on for about a week now, maybe less. I think it's coming across quite well, to be honest. It uses the triconsonantal root and pattern system seen in Arabic and Hebrew. The script is a modified Arabic abjad (modified in that the characters do not correspond Sfaxi to Arabic. Most pairs of letters are based off of aspiration).
b - /b/ - ب
d - /d/ - ح
f - /f/ - ف
h - /h/ - غ
j - /j/ - س
q - /k/ - ش
l - /l/ - د
m - /m/ - ى
n - /n/ - ي
p - /p/ - ت
r - /r/ - ر
s - /s/ - ص
t - /t/ - ج
w - /w/ - و
x - /ks/ - ه
y - /y/ - ع
z - /z/ - ض
Vowels are shown as diacritics on the letter. For example, with b:
a - /ä/ - بَ
i - /i:/ - بِ
e - /ɛ/ - بٔ
u - /u/ - بٓ
The acceptable syllables are:
CV - wa
rV - ra
CrV - wra
rSV - rwa/rya
Where r is the letter r and s is either w or y.
This is just a preview, if you want to get into more detail, I will be posting more stuff at www.reddit.com/r/sfaxi !
