Eromanian (Black Sea Romanian)

Post by RobElks »

A Latin-descended conlang, spoken by a community of sea-travelling merchants living in towns along the northern Black Sea coast. They were descended from oceanic merchants who used to be ruled by the Eastern Roman Empire, but separated after it fell. Despite its name, its language is barely related to the Romanian language, instead taking a wildly different direction. Its speakers' numbers have been dwindling since 1800, and today number just 3,000, scattered around the Baltic Sea. However, their culture is now being preserved through rituals and celebrations.
