CBB Speedlanging Weekend II - [Now Operational!]

Post by DesEsseintes »

CBB Speedlanging Weekend II

Back in January, Keenir organised a Speedconlanging Weekend and many people posted interesting ideas they came up with.

As it's been almost half a year, I thought it might be time for another round.

I was thinking of this weekend, June 18-19, but if people feel that's too sudden, it could also be the weekend after.
Edit: Update: I'm planning on releasing the restrictions just after midnight on Saturday, June 18. That's Beijing time, so the restrictions will actually be out around 16:00GMT on Friday, June 17.
As for parameters/restrictions to be followed, I have some ideas, but so far nothing extraordinary. If anyone has a good idea for restrictions, please PM me rather than post them in this thread. Unlike last time round, I don't want to discuss restrictions in-thread or release the final restrictions until the actual speedlanging commences. Adds a bit of edge.

Please post here if you're interested in participating. It goes without saying (I hope) that everyone is welcome.

This OP will be edited with all the rules and restrictions nearer to the time.

CBB Speedlanging Weekend - Theme and Constraints

Here we go! The Speedlanging Weekend commenceth! [:D]

Some of you may know that I'm especially interested in small phoneme inventories, so the constraints below may not come as a surprise. Having said that, the constraints should be taken as guidelines to make the game more fun (hopefully), and bending things a bit will not be punished by ostracism from the conlanging community.

Theme

The theme of the challenge, to be interpreted as you see fit, is Helping.

Phonology Constraints

- No more than 12 consonant phonemes
- No affricates
- No phonemic approximants (i.e. you are allowed to have them surface because of allophony and/or morphophonology)
- Extra points for removing another mode of articulation or major place of articulation
- No restrictions on the number of vowel phonemes

Morphology Constraints

- Evidence of nonconcatenative morphology, but no triconsonantal roots

That's it!

Here is an excellent thread from the ZBB for those in need of inspiration when making a small inventory.

Please disclaimer how much time you spent on your speedlang (I think 1-4 hours would be appropriate) and post what you come up with in the thread.

Happy speedlanging!!

I'm interested in participating. This weekend is pretty busy for me, but I wouldn't want to wait another full week, personally, so hopefully I could just do it on Monday?

I like the idea of not discussing restrictions in the thread until the actual speedlanging time. I'll let you know if I have any ideas, by the way.

its going to be so much fun!

I look forward to participating; thus far, both weekends are good for me. If that changes, I will try to let someone know; and will send in a belated entry.

16 GMT that is in an hour isn't it?

Well, not too late to join :)

I am not entirely sure if I can make it as I'm terribly busy with exams atm, but I'm doing my best if so.
Wipe the glass. This is the usual way to start, even in the days, day and night, only a happy one.
