Back in January, Keenir organised a Speedconlanging Weekend and many people posted interesting ideas they came up with.
As it's been almost half a year, I thought it might be time for another round.
I was thinking of this weekend, June 18-19, but if people feel that's too sudden, it could also be the weekend after.
Please post here if you're interested in participating. It goes without saying (I hope) that everyone is welcome.
This OP will be edited with all the rules and restrictions nearer to the time.
CBB Speedlanging Weekend - Theme and Constraints
Here we go! The Speedlanging Weekend commenceth!
Some of you may know that I'm especially interested in small phoneme inventories, so the constraints below may not come as a surprise. Having said that, the constraints should be taken as guidelines to make the game more fun (hopefully), and bending things a bit will not be punished by ostracism from the conlanging community.
Theme
The theme of the challenge, to be interpreted as you see fit, is Helping.
Phonology Constraints
- No more than 12 consonant phonemes
- No affricates
- No phonemic approximants (i.e. you are allowed to have them surface because of allophony and/or morphophonology)
- Extra points for removing another mode of articulation or major place of articulation
- No restrictions on the number of vowel phonemes
Morphology Constraints
- Evidence of nonconcatenative morphology, but no triconsonantal roots
That's it!
Here is an excellent thread from the ZBB for those in need of inspiration when making a small inventory.
Please disclaimer how much time you spent on your speedlang (I think 1-4 hours would be appropriate) and post what you come up with in the thread.
Happy speedlanging!!
