Boral

lon cost /lɔn ˈkɔst/ [lʊŋˈkɔst] free (of charge), freely given
< “without cost”. The first word is from Old Boral loin “away from”, from Latin longē “from far off”; the second a deverbal derivation of the verb costar “to cost, to be worth” (first attested 12C), from Latin constō “I consist of, I cost”. Both the verb and the deverbal are unattested outside of this construction after 1500.

Vail un bon trenc, lour dar un jorn cogmað lon cost.
It would be nice to give them a day off for free.

Boral

trocar entr /tʀoˈkaʀ ɛntʀ̩/ [tʀʊˈkɑː‿ʀɛntɐ] to reciprocate, to repay, to retaliate
< “to trade between”. Preposition from Latin inter “between, among”; verb possibly from an Old Boral trocar “to trade”, either an alternation of torcar < Latin torqueō “I twist, bend”, or more likely from Old Spanish trocar via Old French, of uncertain origin.

Si meðes nos poðau lou fornir d'aïðanç, il trocausn noc entr tardessem.
Even if we provided them with aid, they would not reciprocate later.

Lexember 7th - Yélian

vantièl [vɐnˈtɪ̯ɛl] - massage
Etymology: Borrowing from Caelian vantyel "massage"; The obvious similarity to vanit "hand" is a coincidence which can be easily proven, as the primary stress is not on the first syllable like it is in words that are actually derived from vanit. (Of course, ultimately both words are derived from the Proto-Mendric root *bnt.]

Aquis yibernen kilomètri perda, tyanarpesai vantièl o'condan!
[ˈaːkɨs ɕɨˈbeɾnən ˌkilɔ̈ˈmɛtɾi ˈpeɾdɐ, t͡ʃɐnɐɾˈpeːsaɪ̯ vɐnˈtɪ̯ɛl ɔ̈ˈkondɐn]

ra-ranú /ra.raˈnu/ - reduplication of ranú "to put, to lay"

2.) to arrange, to order
I really like this entry, both the Elá word itself and the effect of the reduplication! [:)]

For Lexember 7, I have a collocation:

/kuʔihɛ ʔo.'da.tus/ = gift or act for which nothing is expected in return

/kuʔihɛ/ normally is a stative verb (fulfilling the role of an adjective) that expresses that something comes alone (it is derived from “lone tree”).

A short example dialogue:

dɛx-hɛ nuz sɛ ton-ma ʔo.su.sum
2SG-GEN.AL friend NEG help-VERB why
“Why does your friend not help (you)?”

ʔo.'da.tus sɛ kuʔihɛ-mɛʔu ton-du kiku mu sɛ nolishɛ
gift NEG be.free-CVB.CAUSAL.DS help-INST DUMMY AGENT 1SG NEG be.honeyed
“Because the gift is not free, one does not honey (=tempt) me with help.”
= “I don’t want (their) help cause they would expect something in return.”

Thanks! [:)] The capital letters are code for the different characters in the conscript. The character Q is pronounced [a], [i.] or [j] depending on its position in the word. I never thought to actually romanize the words though, maybe I should in the future.

I used to have a thread for Ivook years ago, but I think it got deleted some time ago when they did some ra-ranú ( [:D] ) on the board. But it wasn't really up to date anyway. I'm thinking of making a new one for it, maybe like one of those scratchpad-like thread that I've seen. I feel like I will have a lot of new material thanks to Lexember now, so maybe it's time!
