The Pitakuna Language

Post by LinguoFranco »

Pitakuna [pɪta'kʊna] is a language spoken by a race of forest dwelling humans also called the Pitakuna. They construct their homes high up in the trees and connect to each other by rope bridges.

Below is the phonemic inventory for their language:

/m n ŋ/
/p t ts k ʔ/
/pʰ tʰ kʰ/
/ɸ s ʃ h/
/β z/
/l ɻ j/

Pitakuna has nine vowels and vowel harmony based on a tense/lax distinction.

Tense vowels:

/i u/
/e o/

Lax Vowels:

/ɪ ʊ/
/ɛ ɔ/

The vowel /a/ is considered neutral and can appear with either tense vowels or lax vowels.

The vowels do not have a phonemic length contrast.

All syllables in Pitakuna can only be CV.

This is all I have so far, as I just started this language. I might expand upon it in this thread some more later on as I develop it.

Sounds nice this far.

Advanced tongue root is a more common feature for vowel harmony, but lax/tense is nice too.
