Adding the participle markers

The participle markers after a vowel stem are

Code: Select all

Masculine Feminine Irrational singular Rational plural Irrational plural
Simultaneous -Î -l -r -du -da
Anterior -ñ -n -m -mu -ma
Irrealis -soñ -son -sou -sonu -sona
Gegative -kkoñ -kkon -kkou -kkoa
The stem can, however, end in any allowed coda {t k ʔ, s x, n ŋ, l ʟ, r}.

Resonant stems:

Code: Select all

Masculine Feminine Rational plural Irrational singular Irrational plural
Simultaneous -g/-eÎ -d/-el -du -C/-er -da
Anterior -iñ -in -im -imu -ima
Irrealis -soñ -son -sou -sou -soa
Gegative -goñ -gon -gou -goa
When there are two alternatives, the first of them is used before an auxiliary marker, i.e. in finite verb forms, while the latter is used in word-end, i.e. in nonfinite verb forms.

jol 'to say' with auxiliary marker -e

Code: Select all

Masculine Feminine Rational plural Irrational singular Irrational plural
Simultaneous yolge yolde yolle yollu yolla
Anterior yoliñe yoline yolime yolinue yolinae
Irrealis yolsoñe yolsone yolsoe yolsoue -soae
Gegative yolgoñe yolgone yolgoe -goue -yolgoae

Plosive stems

Masculine Feminine Rational plural Irrational singular Irrational plural
Simultaneous -C/-eÎ -y/-el -du -C/-er -da
Anterior -iñ -in -im -imu -ima
Irrealis -soñ -son -sou -sou -soa
Gegative -goñ -gon -gou -goa

My current feeling is that I'll simplify the verb morphology and get rid of 'have' auxilairy.
Instead there is a causative/inchoative slot before the auxiliary. 'To fell a tree' is thus 'to make a tree fall.' I don't know if there will be some passive or anticausative elsewhere.

korje-N-t-e
listen-ANTERIOR.M-INCH-is
'He started to listen.'

'eraneba
'era-n-e-pa
enter-ANTERIOR.F-is-1st.EGO
'I entered.'

'eranbeba
'era-n-p-e-pa
enter-ANTERIOR.F-CAUS-is-1st.EGO
'I brought it in.'

Above 'interrupts somebody' is

kottiNbe
kotti-N-p-e
have_a_pause-ANTERIOR.M-CAUS-is
'interrupted'

The verb still has some unsolved issues, but it is more or less clear what categories it codes.
So, I can proceed to syntax.

The word order is SOV or OSV, depending on what is the more topical argument. Some very heavy, that is long, parts of the sentence can follow the verb, but they are usually embedded clauses rather than nominal arguments.

Nayuga' mettoo teebao 'uminbe.
king's wife.NOM son.ACC gave.birth
'The king's wife gave birth to a son.'

Teebao nayuga' mettoo 'uminbe.
son.ACC king's wife.NOM gave.birth
'The son was given born by the king's wife.'

-------------
I don't know yet how to code argument focus or 'emphasis'. There might be a cleft clause (with the auxiliary marker and participle separated). Or there might be some focus clitic.

------------

Realtive clause preceeds its head and is nonfinite.

teeboa 'umin mettoo
teeba-u 'umi-n mettoo
son-ACC be.born-ANTERIOR.PTCP wife
'a wife that has given birth to a son'

The status of the head in the relative clause if deduced from the context. 'umin is intransitive. In a main clause, it can be transitivized with the causative marker -p-, but that cannot appear in a relative clause.
