Good morning, whitest friend!

Cor divir n 'wilir? Dyssemlad?
Why do n's have to be velar? Dissimilation?
The language is intentionally very sloppy-mouthed (because I am!), and I find velar nasals softer to pronounce, but put two of them of them in a row, and it gets clumsy again. I thus found it interesting to alternate between them. The geminated /n/ is always velar, though, and the cluser /ln/ is realised as such too. The /n/ is in general very unstable, disappearing in a lot of places and nasalising the preceding vowel instead, and will, in roots, assimilate perfectly before the four stops; /np nt nk nq/ are realised as [m̥p n̥t ŋ̊k ɴ̥q], respectively (+ nasalisation of the preceding vowel). So it's probably one of the most butchered phonemes in the language.

Nice rhyme.

Slight change (thought up some new rules while eating lunch):

hapsas iw-aju̧mmausódi

1. The only word-final consonants permitted are (they have to be after a vowel) /n m s j w h/. This won't work, though, with my current morphology, either, so I'll have to give it some more thought, and probably adjust my morphemes a bit.
2. I no longer write an accent mark on vowels before /j w/; these are always long either way, so it feels redundant, and it looks nicer without it. It also makes sense, since there can't be any phonemic minimal pairs in length before the glides, so a short realisation wouldn't be a problem either.
3. I might stop writing word-final/-initial vowels when they get swallowed by following/preceding ones, either entirely, or with an apostrophe. Not sure yet. This means that iw-, if it appears after a word ending in a vowel, would be spelled either w- or 'w-. Or I might always spell it w- (or u-, or v-), no matter what. The i- is pronounced either way. There is thinking to do!

There will still be some sort of sandhi on boundaries. The underlying form of the 1P suffix, even though it will, word-finally, surface as -i, is still /j/. Therefore we will get stuff like this:

*tæk-j > tæki; 'I am reading' [ˈtæɡ{ː/ɯ̯}] < *tækj / *tækji
*tæk-j-A‹w›i > tækşæwi; 'I am reading to him' [ˈtæx͡ɕˌæwː{ː/ɯ̯/ʊ̯}] < *tækjæwi

As you can see, sentence-finally, the final vowel may still be skipped. This is only true for -i; -a or -u or their front vowel variants may not be omitted finally. -o and -œ do not occur finally.

... Yes, this thread is now my open diary. Maybe I should start a thread. Or one of those geeky blogs.
