What language is this? It is general practice to name the natlang/conlang you're posting a translation for.

I know that's the Armenian alphabet but unless you actually say that we can't be sure.

Well it's my conlang. Considering this is a conlang forum, I figured it was kinda obvious. I just don't have a name for it.

Not really, because people post natlang translations in this section all the time, and you have chosen to use the distinctive Armenian script for your conlang, so anyone who wasn't familiar with Armenian (such as myself) could have been confused into thinking it was an Armenian translation.

A lot of people post natlang translations, actually! Or they post in a variety of conlangs rather than just one. So it's not as straightforward as it might initially appear.

(eep, ninjaed by Fris. Ah well, I'll leave it.)

Däniräs reiz.
/dæˈniræs rɛɪz/
[dɛˈnirɛs rɛɪz] - phonetic /æ/ often becomes [ɛ] when unstressed in casual speech; pronouncing it this way would be the equivalent of either (1) saying "love you" or (2) saying "I love you" after someone made a cutting remark

I might end up having to change the noun for love in the proto-language, lol... though now that I think about it, there are a lot of easier and less drastic solutions, like making the more common expression an idiomatic "give love" rather than a word "lovegive."

Spoiler:
ivoli taja kija
['ivolʲi 'tajä 'kʲijä]

Code: Select all

ivol-i  taj-a  kij-a
love-VM 1SG-NM 2SG-NM
I love you/I like you (not a very strong feeling, can be used between friends)

ivoli vo taja kija
['ivolʲi 'vo 'tajä 'kʲijä]

Code: Select all

ivol-i vo  taj-a  kij-a
love-VM big 1SG-NM 2SG-NM
I love you/I strongly like you (this is how "I love you" in English is most likely to be translated)

laji taja kija/laji taja itota kati kija iso
['ɫaji 'tajä 'kʲijä]/['ɫaji 'tajä 'itotä 'katʲi 'kʲijä 'iso]

Code: Select all

laj-i   taj-a  kij-a  / laj-i   taj-a  itot-a   kat-i   kij-a  iso
like-VM 1SG-NM 2SG-NM / like-VM 1SG-NM thing-NM exist-VM 2SG-NM ADJECTIF
I like you as a character(?)/I like the idea of you existing (both are weird, because "laji" is primarily used for inanimate nouns, but the second is also a little romantic. Included because one of my characters says it like that)
NM and VM - noun marker and verb marker;
ADJECTIF - adjectification particle; it makes the previous sentence (starting with a verb or two verbs connected by a conjunction) into an adjective;
about the character I mentioned: this conlang isn't connected to a conworld, it's connected to a fanfiction, though only some elements of the canon setting are used and the characters are all original.

:con: Shintæmild (old conlang, has very englishy grammar, but sounds nice)
Spoiler:
mesje liora riuje
/'meʐe li'ora 'riuʐe/

Code: Select all

mesh-je liora riu-je
1[SG]-F love  2[SG]-F
I love you (romantically; speaker and listener are both female)

mesje anodi riou
/'meʐe 'anodi ri'ou/

Code: Select all

mesh-je anodi riu-ou
1[SG]-F love  2-PL
I love you (platonically; speaker is female, there are over 12 listeners, whose gender is undefined)

A poetic way to say this:

liora to pægas æshel mesje'ajo "mesje æshel riuje'sho" piteae'ajo
/li'ora to 'pægas 'æʃel 'meʐe.aʐo 'meʐe 'æʃel 'riuʐe.ʃo 'pite.ae.aʐo/

Code: Select all

liora to  pæ-gas        æshel mesh-je=ajo mesh-je æshel riu-je=sho   piteo-ae=ajo
love  and AFF-happiness be    1[SG]-F=in  1[SG]-F be    2[SG]-F=near time-PAUC=in
I love you (romantically; speaker and listener are both female)(lit. "there is love and happiness inside of me in times when I'm with you")
PAUC - paucal grammatical number, 2-11 things;
AFF - affirmative prefix, is the opposite of the negation prefix;
when a grammatical element modifies the spelling of a previous one, I write the final version in the original text, and the non-modified forms of both in the glossed text;
quote marks here do not represent something, they're actual quote marks, because I couldn't figure out what to do with them.

blue-CONF1 CONF2-1 white-CONF1-blue-CONF1-dark-CONF2 love;completely_understand-CONF2 CONF2-2

I (and I'm sure that's not me) am sure I don't love and completely understand you (and I'm sure that's you)(lit. I don't not love you)
CONF# - confidence; 0 = not at all, 1 = partially confident, 2 = completely sure;

Elmena argai.
/ɛl'mɛna‿ar'gaːi/
El-men-a ar-gai
1SG-love-PRS 2SG-ACC
I (really) love you.

Eldemman argin.
/ɛl'dɛmːan ar'gin/
El-demm-an ar-gin
1SG-feel.good-PRS 2SG.LOC
I fell good with / around you.

el- is the prefix for "I" fused to the verb in the present tense, i.e. mena = "love", demman = "feel good" or "fit well".
ar- is the prefix for "you" fused to the case-marker, that originates from the word go = "who".
argin literally means "next to you", so one could also use the temporal argun, which could translate to "every time I am with you".

The second example is more selfish, thus rather platonic [:D]

Xe wᶖᶖ kópeda po-u.
SG1 like love1 sg22-DAT
'I love you.'

1 Kópeda is a noun that means sexual/romatic love.
2 There will probably be more second person pronouns for different registers.
