Re: Xiwook

I'm considering a Chinese-style compounding system because the monosyllabic roots are so short.

To say 'book' you have to compound two nearly synonymous roots 'volume-book'.

It could be a possible way to say 'Hello' in a human culture, too.

Re: What is the newest word in your conlang?

The newest Dlor word is jäd . It means both '(to be) easy' and '(to be) talented' '(to be) good at something'. If you are good at conversations, you are easy to converse with. S-mon jäd ra na-bosek. DEF-man JÄD COMPL ANTIP-kill 'The man is good at killing.' Jäd ra bosek s-mon. JÄD COMPL kill DEF-man...

Re: Omzinian Scrap thread

Did I already mention my idea of a Finnic language with this vowel inventory. i ɨ u e o ä Length is contrastive. Starting from Finnish-ish y i u ø e o æ ɑ Short y, ø -> ɨ Long ø: -> ɨ: Long y: -> yi (as in Estonian), put interpreted as /ui/ Long ɑ: in non-initial syllables -> ɨ Genitive -n lengthens...

How grammaticalized it is? Is some movement still needed in semantics?

Body parts are such a big thing in Dlor. I would like to find a new idea, but they really are very useful.

Re: SBäk e Dlor

Maybe Dlor does not need a distinct prefix for body parts as instruments and objects.

If the object is the subject's own body part, adding a middlevoice marker is enough.
But if it is the object's body part?

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Indo-European and some other languages use prepositions as verb prefixes to code different adverbial functions (lexical affixes which I've been interested in for a while). What other morphemes could develop to lexical affixes and still preserve their original functio? Multi-purpose morphemes are one...

Re: Replacement puns

I'm trying to find out a replacement pun in Finnish but those latinisms are not that common. There are some folk etymologies like Kaukasia -> kauk-Aasia 'far Asia' (people often lengthen the a) but no place is named Kaukafrikka. This counts as a replacement pun, I think. Junamaatti is a thing, an au...

I checked Mapudungun, and it seems that it actually does not have secondary stress, but research is difficult cos the language is dying. Basque stressing seems to depend on dialect, but those two apparently do have secondary stress. The data are incomplete as best. Digging deeper could be a good su...

I have sent 0.82 messages per day, 4092 messages, including this one.
How many days I have to send two messages per day to have send one message per day on average?

882 days! Quite much conlanging.

Compounding does not happen and all verbs have thus just one root. The verb template is -4/-3 Middle ...
