Re: Omzinian Scrap thread
This lang could have some random morphology. pʰ tʰ kʰ p t k b d g t͡s t͡ɬ t͡ʂ ʈ͡ɬ d͡z d͡ɮ d͡ʐ ɖ͡ɮ s ɬ ɕ ʂ ɬ z ʑ ʐ mʰ nʰ m n ŋ l r ɭ ɽ s ʃ x z ʒ ʋ j i ɨ u e ə o ä Most words are monosyllabic. The syllable structure is: C(G)V(C), where G is a glide (ʋ j). When the coda is an obstruent or lacks, the sy...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
First off, if this would be better suited for a different thread (the Linguistics & Natlangs one specifically), it's fine to move it. Anyway, when dividing morpheme boundaries in a gloss, what does one do if a morpheme is separable, but has an effect on the root? Specifically: fulh "to mak...

Re: Whale Linguistics
I read https://medium.com/predict/how-complex-is-dolphins-communication-9b77065e313d Dolphin language seems to be even more complex than that of humans. They can send two messages simultaneously. I once tried to make a conlang like that but it never went far. But it also seems that the names are all...
Re: Xiwook
I'm considering a Chinese-style compounding system because the monosyllabic roots are so short.
To say 'book' you have to compound two nearly synonymous roots 'volume-book'.

Re: Whale Linguistics
It could be a possible way to say 'Hello' in a human culture, too.
'Hi, I'm Omzinesý!', though I had met the person zillion times and they well knew who I am.

Re: What is the newest word in your conlang?
The newest Dlor word is jäd . It means both '(to be) easy' and '(to be) talented' '(to be) good at something'. If you are good at conversations, you are easy to converse with. S-mon jäd ra na-bosek. DEF-man JÄD COMPL ANTIP-kill 'The man is good at killing.' Jäd ra bosek s-mon. JÄD COMPL kill DEF-man...

Re: Omzinian Scrap thread
My mind is wandering. An unnamed lang Vowels (The inventory happens to be like that of Pashto.) i u <i u> e ə o <ai e au> æ ɒ <a o> Diphthongs ei~æi, eu~æu, oi~ɒi, ou~ɒu <ei, eu, oi, ou> (The first component can thus be closed or mid.) The stress always lies on the second syllable. - ə only appears ...

Re: Omzinian Scrap thread
Did I already mention my idea of a Finnic language with this vowel inventory. i ɨ u e o ä Length is contrastive. Starting from Finnish-ish y i u ø e o æ ɑ Short y, ø -> ɨ Long ø: -> ɨ: Long y: -> yi (as in Estonian), put interpreted as /ui/ Long ɑ: in non-initial syllables -> ɨ Genitive -n lengthens...

How grammaticalized it is? Is some movement still needed in semantics?Creyeditor wrote: ↑11 Apr 2024 17:27 colloquial German zu Fuß 'by foot, directly, without additional tools'.
Body parts are such a big thing in Dlor. I would like to find a new idea, but they really are very useful.

Re: SBäk e Dlor
Maybe Dlor does not need a distinct prefix for body parts as instruments and objects.
If the object is the subject's own body part, adding a middlevoice marker is enough.
But if it is the object's body part?

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
Indo-European and some other languages use prepositions as verb prefixes to code different adverbial functions (lexical affixes which I've been interested in for a while). What other morphemes could develop to lexical affixes and still preserve their original functio? Multi-purpose morphemes are one...

Re: Replacement puns
I'm trying to find out a replacement pun in Finnish but those latinisms are not that common. There are some folk etymologies like Kaukasia -> kauk-Aasia 'far Asia' (people often lengthen the a) but no place is named Kaukafrikka. This counts as a replacement pun, I think. Junamaatti is a thing, an au...

Re: Omzinian Scrap thread
I checked Mapudungun, and it seems that it actually does not have secondary stress, but research is difficult cos the language is dying. Basque stressing seems to depend on dialect, but those two apparently do have secondary stress. The data are incomplete as best. Digging deeper could be a good su...

I'm 4974 days old.
I have sent 0.82 messages per day, 4092 messages, including this one.
How many days I have to send two messages per day to have send one message per day on average?
882 days! Quite much conlanging.

I do have one but, you know, you don't write it from the beginning to the end. There are many holes too. It's far from publishable.
