Re: Oracle Bone Script Font
Gorgeous! the only thing that strikes me as a little jarring is is that the right angles in 田 and especially 畑 look a little too perfect- maybe have the lower horizontal strokes echo the slight curve of the top one, or use the tapered-at-the-ends stroke you have in characters like 一 and 王.

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
Okay, so in Mbär I've got two locational cases, the key difference between them being that one indicates static or unspecified position relative to something, and one refers specifically to motion relative to it- a sort of combined lative and ablative. So you get: ɂił qo-nu ḱwë qo-nu in house-LOC1 a...

Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread
Here's what I have so far for my new project, Mbär Ce Nhgeñ : Consonants: http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/1008/mbrcenhge.png Interpreting the one series as 'aspirated ejectives' feels kind of kludgy, but I'm not sure how else to do it. My mic's not working at the moment so I can't look at them in p...

Re: Conscript Stroke count
If the writing system is "complete", it may: a.a) Encode each unit of whatever it is supposed to represent equally (that is, give each a full glyph/letter/character). a.b) Encode different units differently (like, encode only some segments a full character, while others are marked through...

Re: Human vs. Non-human Characters
You know, I just thought of something interesting. Can anyone name off a piece of fiction that: - Includes at least 2 non-human characters - Who talk to each other - About something other than a human or humanity in general I'm... actually having a hard time thinking of any. The only ones that come...

Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread
OK, definitely think I'm gonna switch <ts> to <z> - I was already considering it, and you guys have tipped me over the edge. I'd really prefer to avoid <j>, though- it's the wrong color for the language, maroon while the rest of the orthography is a nice mix of rich yellows and pale blues. Anyone kn...

Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread
Why not just use <z> for /ʒ/? --- Anyway, here's the beta version of Tirfan, a new lang I'm working on. I'm rather fond of the plain-palatal-aspirated distinction. Anyone know if it's attested anywhere? /p pʰ t tʲ tʰ k kʲ kʰ/ <b p d dy t g gy g> /t͡s/ <ts> /f s h/ <f s h> /m n/ <m n> /r l j w/ <r l ...

Re: AMA about the Kaynur
Some male lions never develop manes - does this happen with any frequency among any groups of Kaynur? If it does, what's its cultural significance? How is infanticide regarded among the Kaynur? It's fairly common for male lions to kill off an ousted rival's cubs in order to return the females to est...

Re: How NOT to Conworld.
So I just reread this entire thread and it gave me a horrific idea: Eroworld, the conworld consisting solely of various sexual fetishes. Who wants to help me with this one? Ooh! What if there's a specific fetish for each little society, and it dominates their culture; like the foot fetish people ha...

So Burushaski is apparently Indo-European...
At least according to a rather hastily-written press-release from Macquarie University that connects it to the Paleo-Balkan languages.
Thoughts?
