I finished filling out the initial lexicon for my redo of Łoresla. This is the first—and last—time I conlang by writing a poem and then analyzing it.

Re: What did you accomplish today?
I haven't worked out the morphology yet, but I decided to slaughter a pair of auxiliary verbs and turn their reduced forms into markers for the inchoative and cessative aspects in Łoresla. I'm probably also going to take the word for "again" and use a reduced form as a habitual aspect mark...

Re: What did you accomplish today?
I was wondering how the heck a simple verb root like nal could mean only to conceive a child. So I added half a dozen senses: to do something to make or assemble something to conceive (a child) to create something to think something up, get an idea (Magic) to conjure something On another note, anybo...

Re: Count to 10 in your Conlang
:con: Łoresla Łoresla uses an octal system, but I'll provide decimal values for clarity. I based it partly on Hebrew. I also stole the -im plural ending directly from Hebrew. So sue me. It's still a work in progress, and I changed it a bunch from what I had in my notes, but I think it might work a l...

Re: What did you accomplish today?
@ mbrsart : It's a strange combo of fun and nostalgia glancing back over old projects, isn't it? I know for me it is also a great source of "what in the hell did I mean by this notation!?" I know, right? I spent a few minutes going back over my noun and numeral systems, laughing, and sayi...

Re: Naturalism question: compound/hierarchical gender system
The masculine animate-masculine inanimate distinction in some Slavic languages is like this, in that they're "half-genders" of a sort. Interesting. I'll have to do more Slavic research, especially since I'm trying to pull Slavic influences into another conlang (at this point, it's a mostl...

Re: Naturalism question: compound/hierarchical gender system
Nah, this looks realistic even if there is no precedent. Actually, this break down of categories reminds me quite a bit of the animacy hierarchy in some North American languages. Ojibwe and Navajo use similar categories, though not necessarily as noun classes but in other ways such as indicating gr...

Naturalism question: compound/hierarchical gender systems
So I recently revisited the elvish/draconic conlang I'm creating for my WIP high fantasy novel series, and I'm questioning the naturalism of the gender system I came up with. I don't know whether to call it nested, hierarchical, compound, or all of the above, but it's basically animate/inanimate wit...

Yo soy vegetariano verdadero. (¿Vacuno? No sé qué palabra.) I'm a tru...

Re: The Great Thread on Non-Concatenative Conlanging
I now have a few examples from Velyesh (Вэлеш), my experimental triconsonantal lang with a slavic sound system (heavily inspired by Biblical Hebrew). гус - lip гис - to kiss Then there are a couple of different ways to describe the act of kissing, depending on how poetic you want to get.

Re: The Great Thread on Non-Concatenative Conlanging
I'm currently working on a triconsonantal lang with a Slavic-inspired sound system, written with the Russian alphabet. It's going to have a lot of stuff inspired by Ancient Hebrew.

Er...

Habla usted otra lengua latina? He intentado aprenderlo, pero he aprendido más español. (Me gusta cantar en italiano.) Es inte...
