Tengwar script question

Not sure where this should go but I stumbled across https://www.tecendil.com/ when I was looking for a new conscript idea. Then I kept going back it now about 2 weeks, I'm still asking myself why is Tolkien's Tengwar script so pretty? Even the words themselves are pretty too, as if Welsh got a major...

Re: If natlangs were conlangs

Tbf, /envelope/ should be invelop (like develop but for paper) to be consistent with English rules but not everything is consistent in English.

Re: Untranslatable words

:con: Vezen: vájjarinazg /vʌʝɘɾɪnæʒ/ - closest equivalent is to Japanese 'mottainai' from mottai (wasteful/too good) nai (does not exist) again even if broken up into individual components it still seems untranslatable to English.

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Am wondering if pre verb modals or post verbal inflections are better for situationals eg You can eat vs eat able or you may eat vs if you eat? I noticed that if I stick to post verbal inflections the order of verbs become very regimented (like Japanese) and you just end up sticking to grammatical r...

Hebragnayaca is made of two main partsː Hebra + Agnayaca. Hebra comes from the Ancient Egyptian word "hprr/hprj" (Kheper/Khepri) meaning a Scarab Beetle. Agnayaca is the Humrayan name for the month of June. Agnayaca is named after the Vedic god of fire Agni, and the final +ca ending of Ag...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

Went and fleshed out my verb list after I somehow figured out where the plosives fall in place. Because the original list had too many approximants (eg lava, rala) that can be hard to pronounce but are great for verb manipulation to strong or weak forms, so I just added -ka, -ga, -ca, etc and differ...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I accomplished learning more signs from being exposed to friends who only sign to each other because they can't hear. I already know enough to say basic sentences - and it has only been like nearly two weekends of being fully exposed. Boy, my head had been swimming from the information overload. It'...

Ti skava ca, Lambhujau - And hey to you too, Lambhuzhao Good effort - yep indeed some garbled bits there. FYI the conlang is more SOV. Ghanṇṭabhyantare is Sanskrit for 'an hour'. It's a wimp-out, I realize, but I like them both. So I'd keep them both and chock it up to "dialect differences" (and they look reasonably mutually intelligible). That's a brilliant idea. I'll do that then :D Eldin Ragmore, if only I could rep you on that epic explanation of affixes and i...

Re: Superweapons in Your Conworld / Connation

Not quite on topic conlang wise but I thought I'd bring up an interesting point. In the Mahabharat, they mention 'brahmastras' and 'brahmashiras' - them being equivalent to nuclear bombs by description but much more potent because they can be any object the wielder so desires to use. And there's eve...
