Re: Muddling through another Conlang
@sirgryfang, None of this is important if you aren't going for realism and naturalism in your language's phonetics and phonology; but if you are, then these discussions might be profitable to you... I'm going for realisticish. I don't need others to be racking their brains trying to figure out what...

Re: Muddling through another Conlang
.../ i e E a u o O Q / might be a more reasonable vowel-inventory, though IMO it still leaves the central vowels unexploited...You might want / i E\ a 1 @ a\ u o\ Q / or some subset of it for a more-reasonable vowel-inventory... /i e E a u o O Q/ or / i E\ a 1 @ a\ u o\ Q / seem reasonable... but I...

Re: Muddling through another Conlang
... Moar back vowels or less front ... I agree on maybe adding more back-vowels, but the amount of front-vowels is fine. Trust me... I'll add more back, but I work with what I understand though, and most of the back confuses me, I guess I need to spend more time listening. ...you'll have a few more...

Re: We're pregnant!
...miscarriage... I hope you've had a child carried to full term and born well, since then. How many do you have now? 0 :-( we're trying to figure out the issue, but until then she's on a cocktail of different meds. Back to topic though... what should a couple say (gay or straight) if they ...

Re: We're pregnant!
My wife used this when she had her first miscarriage... I'd personally be fine with "I'm Pregnant" or "We're having a baby", but I think the implication behind "We're Pregnant!" is "We're (in this together because you got me) pregnant! (so while I'm the one who has...

Re: Con Religious text for my Con People (Rough Draft)
Thanks, I'll post more when I have it. I'm trying to make it similar to other ancient religious texts. The "Bored" line is basically the conpeople's answer to "What's the point of life?". I'm wondering if I should set up the general morality first or go directly into the establis...

Con Religious text for my Con People (Rough Draft)
Here's the rough draft for the start of the (Con-)religious texts for the Conpeople I'm working on. Just thought I'd share... and yes I'll have actual names, I just have what I want their names to mean right now. Some of this impacts other parts of the texts that I'm still writing so I'm trying to c...

Re: Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
Is it better (easier) to start a conlang then do constories in that language or do make the constories first then translate them into the native conlang they should be in? On a similar note should a word like Fire and Water be named after the condiety or should the condiety be named after the word? ...

If they're snake like, why not an interdental fricative? I didn't know if anything dental would be appropriate... but I'll consider it. Thanks. ...And still, aside from a possible ritual language I think it unlikely they'd borrow reptile-imitation sounds into their actual speech... Religion and myt...

more sibilants Thank you. Which reptiles are these based on? No real reptile, but if you need one in mind I would just default to a snake. Furthermore no reptiles already have the ability to talk, what modifications are made to their vocal system to allow for human-like talking? Also when I said re...

What I mean was...instead of the buzzing of /B\/ the trilled p being that of the sound of a raspberry, and the trilled t being that of mimicking a machine gun. If that's how it's done, then thanks.
