Re: Today I learned ...

TIL that the phrase "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" is actually only the first part of a quote by Oscar Wilde: "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness ." For what it's worth, I actually disagree with that second part. Every...

Re: Jokes

What did the musician say to his colleague who messed up? “Don’t worry. Accidentals happen.” This joke was inspired by this recent post , right? You know…I don't actually recall. It wouldn't surprise me if it was, but I don't remember seeing it (and even then that assumes my memory isn't incorrect).

Re: Conlang Relay XVII - It Has Begun (Signups remain open)

The first relay of this kind was held last century, in 1999 . They probably carved it into stone tablets or something. Point of order: While it is Stone-Age technology, the tablet was not stone but some form of Nokia polymer, which allowed it to function as a digital recording device in addition to...

Does anyone have the templates for the flag icons? I’d like to make some for Twin Aster (I know the onus for hosting them is on me), but want to keep consistency with what the board already has.

I know we say there's no necroposting on the CBB, but it kind of annoys me when threads last posted on when I wasn't yet two months old are revived. The user who necro’d it is a recent registrant whose profile and linked web site heavily promote a business. I’m not convinced she’s not a spammer. Al...

An Experiment in Trivocalic ("Trivoc") Roots

A thought occurs. Now we get to play "How much of this will be recorded before I pass out and how much will be comprehensible". A tricon, but with vocalic roots and consonantal transfixes. This has undoubtedly been done before, but I thought of some ways I might handle it. This language is...

Probably won't get much worse than heavy rain, though. It had its flaws, yes, but to use it as a comparand to gauge how awful something is is to a) sell it short, or b) to disregard entirely the— Oh. You meant “heavy rain” literally, not the eponymous PS3 game… which is what my brain was telling me...
