I must agree, the genitive proposition is the best. I haven't thought of it due to the general East/Central European (Slavic, German) narrower use of (or thinking of) genitive as a de facto possessive. Now I've got enlighted ;).

I would rather mark palatalization with <â> than <ä>. That's what some scientific translitterations of Russian do.
