Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I wonder

Could any of you tell me what conlangs (especially other people's from this forum or otherwise) are your absolute favorites and why?

1a) What does < c > represent in the romanisation? It's not mentioned in the phonology section, so I'm unsure. Oh, right; "c" represents the /k/ phoneme. Basically I have this dirty fetish since my first conlang, where I like to use both "c" and "q", but drop "k&q...

Re: 日本語で人工言語と世界を…

じつわ私の勉強はとても薄ら。時間がない。 でも私は日本語が簡単の言語ですと思う。 其实什么别的句子还不会写下,认真得学了日语大概两个星期,不太多。但平假名和片假名已认识。我基本上大多数时间在学汉字而基本的文法。 其實什麼別的句子還不會寫下,認真得學了日語大概兩個星期,不太多。但平假名和片假名已認識。我基本上大多數時間在學漢字而基本的文法。 So yeah, until the end of the summer I won't have that much time to learn it (unlike I predicted...), but the cloud of mystery di...

文澩鼎 - Toraya

http://i64.tinypic.com/v5a1yg.png Toraya is an isolate with many borrowings from sino-tibetan languages as well as semitic languages. It’s written with adopted Chinese characters (abandoning completely the concept of phonetic elements) and supplicated with simplified Arabic script (with no diacriti...

Re: 日本語で人工言語と世界を…

I think you're trying to place a uniquely Chinese problem in the context of Japan, where it doesn't fit. You have Hong Kong and Taiwan and so forth where traditional characters are standard, and then Mainland China where simplified characters are standard. Essentially, there are two competing moder...

Re: 日本語で人工言語と世界を…

Things that can be tricky for learners of Japanese include politeness distinctions... I suspect that to be the most difficult part actually, because none of the languages I attempted to learn had any kind of advanced honorifics. Do you have any specific tips about this one? ...the extreme head-fina...

Re: Con-Script Development Centre

http://www.vgfun.net/lee/langpage/scripts/uyendur/fluency/25.png Yes, I would like to know more about this one as well, it looks very good, very syriac-inspired. I assume it's an alphabet, because you're marking vowels, but sometimes I lose track of them. Is it because of ligatures, or is there som...

Re: Amanghu (天語), or Chinese Altaic

For example, the verb 吃 к̆а̎ /kʰá/ "to eat" becomes 旦吃 гк̆а̎ /gʰá/ in the past tense, and 弗吃 хк̆а̎ /xá/ in the future tense. This one I like a lot. It looks like analytical Japanese. Also I especially like the name of the language. There's something very unique about Chinese characters an...

Japanese Question Thread: 日本語に関する質疑応答

Konnichiwa! I started to slowly get into Asian languages. My first shot was Chinese (I've been bursting through it for the last half year and in two months I hope to give a speech in it), so I got pretty familiar with the hanzi (although I've been doing them in simplified version only, I can recogni...

Re: Ghoster's Conlangerium

Imfursa looks like a bastard of Voynich Manuscript and Burmese. To be honest I never had any contact with Burmese (I could see it somewhere looking for other scripts), but Imfursa has indeed elements inspired by the Voynich's most recognizable ligature. It's a couple of letters that make ligatures ...

Re: Sáhötan'ővan

I really like the phonetics, they're simple yet original. Creating phonological system that is both small and recognizable is a very hard thing to do. Lots of glottal stops also give it a nice flavor, although the apostrophe doesn't look very appealing in the latin script repeated so many times; som...

Re: Padmaran

So I've been kind of working on the last concept lately. It's all ideographic. I'm finding it very hard to connect the style of this script (with all its boxy nature) with the abjad above (being written in a horizontal line). I guess I'll have to goof around with their written form and work it out f...

Re: Padmaran

Very nicely spotted! The thing is a little bit more complicated than that. Basically the glyph under the tail tells how much of the noun there is and in case of singular and dual if it's masculine or feminine. There's also plural, singulative and nullar number (used in expressing things like "I...

Re: Padmaran

Well, the script was probably the most satisfying element to make about this conlang. Basically it's an absolute abjad, which means that vowels are not marked at all (or there's a marker of "a vowel" at the beginning of a word, but because this conlang has a phonemic glottal stop, it could...

Ghoster's Conlangerium

Ok, guys, what I've got for you today is a prayer in my conlang called Padmaran. I've been working on it for a hell lotta time now and I can finally say I'm satisfied with the effects. http://i67.tinypic.com/s5g5yf.png And now let's break it down a little bit: http://i68.tinypic.com/11kw0i1.png &quo...

Re: 这练习中文

大家好。 我想知道谁现在说汉语。 我学了一个月一个人汉语。 我有跟这个语许多问题。 语法很容易。 我觉得发音也不难。 但我觉得我真从来不学了三千个汉字。。。 很有意思但哇非常难啊。
我现在知道差不多四百个汉字。 我觉得我可以学了一千个汉字下个月。 但我不确定嗯。 哈哈
如果我做错误 - 告诉吧。谢谢。 晚安。

Ghoster's Conlangs [Split]

Split from The Majestic 4th Conversation Thread So, there are three conlangs that I've been developing for quite some time now (even though one of them is still a beta thing as I struggle to make a satisfying correlation between the script, phonotactics and grammar) and they all have their own scri...

Re: Distinctions and mergers in your conlang

My main conlang, Padmaran, doesn't have proper words for "drinking" and "eating", there's only " Caneara " 'To consume'; what's more interesting there are actually very specified words such as " Sea'aha " 'To drink wine' or " Leaqeata " 'To drink bee...
