Re: A soun incàra vîv - Emilian lessons v2

Ok, I'm only starting this now, but here's my attempt at hw 1. (I tried to do it with no notes, it didn't go well) 1) Write out the pronunciation of the following words: parǒl (bucket) /pa'ro:l/ żěl (frost) /'s̪e:l/ /' z̠ e:l/ /'z̪e:l/ gât (cat) /'ga:t/ ninàt (pig) /ni'nat/ cumpâgn(a) (like, as, th...

Okay guys, tt's been a long time. Not that this thing of me taking forever to write a lesson is new. You already know all of my excuses by heart and I even made a post about them, so let's just get down to business! Apologies, I've been away from this thread for quite a while! Re: A soun incàra vîv - Emilian lessons v2

Sorry to keep you waiting, guys. Here we go! And sorry to keep you waiting on a reply! I definitely enjoy how regular the imperfect is [:D] ĚSER is always used [...] with modal verbs followed by a verb requiring ĚSER as their auxiliary: a soun dvû córer vìa - I had to run away; Now that is interest...

Re: A soun incàra vîv - Emilian lessons v2

Neat! So this is pretty much the same thing that happens with the object pronouns and the feminine singular article right? al -> al l' / ajj' I'm not sure which form in particular you refer to, but don't confuse a genuine geminate ( al and l both have pretty clear semantic meanings) with boundary g...

Re: English Dialects

NZ English has 'gizzus' /ˈgɘzɘs/, as in 'gizzus a look at you', seemingly with 'us' suffixed twice. Note NZ English isn't big on using 'us' for 1SG outside of this expression.

Re: A Beginner's guide to Slavic accentuation

Just bumping this thread to say that it's great! Very informative, interesting, wonderfully laid out and easy to follow. I would love to see some more, if Zekoslav is up to it (it looks like they are still active on this site [:)] ).

Re: A paper I wrote on Farsi Ezafe

Your transcription is totally inconsistent. You variously give book as keta:b, ketab and kitab. You also have at least one <y> for /j/. Why not just use the normal transcription? I.e. ketâb. Also it's not clear what most of your ungrammatical sentences are supposed to demonstrate, you just give an u...

Re: Lesson/Guide Requests

I know this one might be a bit weird, but how about a Polynesian language like Rapa Nui or Hawaiian? The Rapa Nui are my favourite ancient culture, and I've been trying to learn their language from Internet-based resources with little luck. I would definitely follow along any Malayo-Polynesian lang...

Re: PSA: aeiouǝ Inventories Exist in Natlangs!

Tocharian B and apparently A both have /aeiouǝ/. While they do both have phonetic [ɨ], in the case of Tocharian B it is simply an allophone of unstressed /ǝ/, whereas in Tocharian A, Proto-Toch. /ɨ/ is elided in open syllables and inserted into consonant clusters, and supposedly exists solely as a t...
