Re: How do conlangers add words to their lexicon?

Reading back what I said, I suppose people did roll their eyes. "Oh, you're one of THOSE".

I do have rules (definitive article at the end of nouns, certain forms of consonant mutation), that sort of thing.

Re: How do conlangers add words to their lexicon?

Planning? No. I use a number of existing languages and shift the spelling as and when I see fit.

I can tell this isn't really within the philosophy of "proper" conlanging

Re: The Lord's Prayer

Oh I know where the rules are, I just don't understand half of them!

I was going to add pronunciation (I tend to do on my other posts), but just getting the stuff out there was enough work for one night.

Re: The Lord's Prayer

What I hope to do with this post is twofold; to spend some time concentrating on the language I'm attempting to create and focus on its rules and regs; and to invite criticism/pointers/advice. Frankly if it looks as though I've used two different suffixes for the same tense, or made a mess with a cl...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

It's all about breaking out of what feels "right", usually in your native language. I still have great difficulty in going off-piste even when I know the dangerous position I find myself in is the likelihood that I'm creating a cipher :$

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

As it happens, I've always wanted to ensure there was a distinction between "with [someone]" and "with [an implement]" in my language, I just didn't know the name for it (which is the comprehensive system for you)

Soon... very soon... we shall take over the whole CBB! Mwahahaha! And then, we shall return, and take over the whole of Nationstates! Muahahaha! Or, maybe not... Yes! We shall conquer all! We shall bring in a new era of universal darkness! Blood for Violet! Um, if it's all right with everybody... T...

Re: Taking notes in your conlang

The only way I got better with shorthand (one of the original constructed languages!) was by using it in different contexts. Take down notes of what people are saying on the television, transcribe your favourite songs, doodle over newspaper headlines. Do whatever it takes to expand your language. I ...

I am chin-stroking about changing the umlaut to something else. You wait until I explain why Shambolicue uses <á>, <é>, <í> etc. [;)] [:P]

Re: Numbers - where better to begin?

Cheers for that. I did wonder if the what I thought was a passing little detail would be picked up! <ö> is indeed the only example of an umlaut in Shambolicue, so could be easily sacrificed. If I avoid IPA for now, the sound is that of "ow", simply, that being "p ow er" or "...

Re: Your/You're conflict

I'm not saying standardisation is wrong. It's damn well important. I just feel if we kept in mind that there isn't truly any "truer" or "purer" language... Isn't that a bit of a contradiction? If there are agreed standards then a language which more closely adheres to those stan...

Numbers - where better to begin?

Hello and indeed hi! As explained on the Introductions thread, I've wandered over here from NationStates, where the idea of having your own language goes only about as far as changing a few spellings and making do. I'm different to that, and always fancied trying to construct a genuine language as f...

Re: Introduction thread(s)

Hello! Welcome! It's always been an ambition to "conlag" but I always find that once I've written down the numbers 1 to 10 and a few attempts at declension all enthusiasm runs away to nothing. Maybe there's some hints and clues here I can find. The correct spelling is conla n g, with a n ...
