@sangi39: Nice map, though I assume a more finalized version will have more naturalistic island chains, right? (I do that too in my map drafts)

Re: What kind of conlanger are you?
The most obvious assistance suggested is him doing you your conlanging at least in part. Well, yes, I guessed that much, but I was a bit uncertain because I thought my original post didn't suggest I needed help (not that I don't appreciate it). I have an old version of Proto-Littoran grammar and I ...

Re: The First Few Steps into a World of Wonderment
Welcome to the forums! I'm the weird bloke who leaves for extended periods of time then returns to the forums unannounced, but anyhow, as others said, if you don't speak multiple languages (or at least are passingly familiar with more than one), the best place to start would be languages that are re...

Re: Kaynur Art!
These are really beautiful. They look sort of like a cross between Uralic and Native American artwork. Okay, 'Native American' is a bit broad but I know of some native American cultures that have artwork like this, unfortunately I forgot their names.

Re: Is the Altaic theory generally accepted or not?
If you go to Russia, I think, it is generally accepted. In some other palces, in Finland for example, it is strongly rejected. Hmm. Is there some political/historical reason behind this? Quite possibly, though I don't know why. I know in China for example some of the language groups in SE Asia (Tai...

Re: Why do most conlangers dislike digraphs when romanizing?
Funny thing is most Vietnamese who are fluent in Vietnamese can read Vietnamese fine without the diacritics based on the context (sort of like that thing you've esen online where English is written without vowels and you can still understand it). Heck, even I, despite my somewhat dubious knowledge o...

Re: Why do most conlangers dislike digraphs when romanizing?
How necessary are the weird consonant spellings if you want to cover both Southern and Northern Vietnamese with the same orthography? Not too weird at all, in my opinion - the only major distinctions that need to be made, as in those that are noticeable enough, are few; the only ones I can think of...

Re: Why do most conlangers dislike digraphs when romanizing?
Also, I really hate Vietnamese's love of diacritics. Diacritics are eviillllll they make my eyes bleed! :mrred: But what might it look like without them? This is actually making me think about how it might look I think the tone marks are fine and necessary, but some of the vowels could really use a...

Re: Why do most conlangers dislike digraphs when romanizing?
I have to agree with you. I love digraphs, though mostly because when I'm typing it is much easier. This. Seriously, it's so much easier. Diacritics are a pain to type up, even with special programs or whatever. Also, I really hate Vietnamese's love of diacritics. Diacritics are eviillllll they mak...

Re: Modern-Day conworlds--what's with their rarity?
Why only have modern-day conworlds? Why only have pre-modern conworlds? Why not... HAVE BOTH? It's what I essentially have with my conworld. The only reason I focus on working the pre-modern aspects is because I have to know what happened before so I could make a reasonable modern-day history. :D ED...

Re: Random Conworld idea thread
The Bosmer or Wood Elves in the Elder Scrolls sort of have that, except where the entire race - both men and women - have to eat meat. However, this is more due to magical/supernatural reasons, where (if I remember correctly), they made a pact with some god where they would basically gain some aweso...
