Re: (EE) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
I'm going to need help from someone who understands engineering. I came across the word "microplane" on the IGCE list. Wiktionary defines "microplane" as: (engineering) One of a set of microscopic planes, variously oriented, within a material, used in modelling stresses etc. Whi...

Re: Some thoughts on the evolution of planetary systems
According to the Grand Tack model , Jupiter migrated inward, bringing the accretion of the terrestrial planets (especially Mars) to a halt, before Saturn pulled it back outward, thus preventing Jupiter from becoming a "hot Jupiter" and saving the day for the terrestrial planets. I find it...

I'm teetering between scrapper and sandboxer, I'd say. Depends how depressed I am at the time. I'm also a total perfectionist, but not quite in the sense presented here. Similarely for me. For most projects I used to be a perfect example of sandboxer, but now I become more and more a scrapper. For ...

Re: Philosophy Thread
I don't have a philosophy. I do think Aristotle and Plato were headed in the right direction, but generally I find that philosophers grope in the darkness when the light is all around them.

@LinguistCat, @lsd, @elemtilas, and @ anyone else who decides to read this: My daughter will turn 30 in about a week and a half. And I’ve been 72 since February this year. So I’ll approximate that I’m 42 years older than my daughter. I don’t want to try to date anyone closer to my daughter’s age th...

So, for language invention, definitely a Former . Have been for years now. For worldbuilding, largely a Sparkler . I just go 10 or 20 years between colour changes. So you've typed yourself! I know you've always been a conworlder first, like me, but you've abandoned the linguistic aspect now? I hope...

Re: The Sixth Conversation Thread
Overheard a discussion as I was getting on a train in London yesterday: a polite but clearly exasperated older American man was exclaiming "but if this is the right platform, this must be the right train!", while a long-suffering London girl was trying to explain, and I quote, "there...

It's a pleasure to know this history. How much of the old websites remains? Or its communities? Pretty much all gone. Usenet is still accessible, I believe, but has been rubbish for decades. Obviously, Conlang-L is still going strong. I'm not sure if all the Auxlangers flamed each other into non-ex...

Re: If I start dating, what is age-appropriate?
(for a similar question, see this thread: http://cbbforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=7993 ) I’m 72 and a widower. I’ve been thinking about getting back in to dating. What’s an appropriate lower age-limit on which women I should ask out? 36 ? 48 ? 54 ? What's the context here? Things like religion, culture...
