Re: How does one go back to college as a 30-something in the US?

Film making --- cool! Is this a hobby of yours? I'd definitely recommend poking around Ebay and Goodwill for some interesting equipment, if you don't already have it! As for your question, yeah, just go on Common App and apply! It's a US / Canadian thing, so no worries about applying to some school ...

(There are also "nicknames", a bit more formal than *our* "nicknames", but a bit more free-form then *their* "formal names".) Do people acquire new names from going through adulthood/marriage rituals? Yes, and/or other events; some by their own choice. These are all gr...

Re: The Sixth Conversation Thread

We're discouraged from discussing pay (I think it's actually written into our contracts, but we regularly question the legality of that amongst ourselves), Just popping in to say a) it's NOT legal in the UK (or in the US). I'm not a lawyer, but the relevant law seems to be the Equality Act (2010) w...

A New IE Origin Theory

I came across an article on some new work on the geographical origins of Indo-European speakers and thought it might be of interest to the community. Also, I am hoping that Joerg might offer some comment on this.

Re: The House of Friendship

Hi Lurker! All together I'd say this is really wonderful and delightfully written! The only thing I have any problem with is that no priest would say "I mean, we build our altars on top of the bones of saints. It’s really not all that different, I guess." I think a priest might say that we...

Edutaining Criminal Justice! There was once, in the land of Angera a particularly eager archon by the name of Crowell whose sole delight, it seems, was devising what some might consider cruel and unusual means of punishing the wicked. But never let it be said that Crowell was a mean sort! For he wa...
