Collective Nouns, / yu -/, and their alignment: •there are collective nouns, like níene "leaves/foliage". •these do not take the plural marker /a-/, and are thought of as singular noun, though can take ordinal numbers. •/ju-/ marks 4p-4p. •collective nouns plural reference pattern: SUBJ: b...

Re: Commonthroat: a language that only a dog could probably pronounce
I was wondering if you could actually render some form of audio clip on this site of how some of this sounds. Playing around with Audacity as we speak. I'm messing around with the timing of vowel contours using the envelope tool and generated white noise as a base. Whines would be easy enough to sy...

Verbal number marking. There's three relevant prefix slots for core argument marking: An outermost ergative person/gender marker (for transitive verbs), an absolutive person/gender marker and lastly a marker encoding number of both ergative and absolutive. I have been meaning to ask this for a while but wasn't sure if I ever would: has there ever been any attested language that has exhibited a tripartite plural system like I use? I have never seen one. Look here https://books.google.com/books/about/Number.html?id=7jc-pgAFcE0C . Something similar to y...

Re: Field/Lexical Affixes in Your Polysynthetic Conlangs?
I will read this paper but, for now, I wanna explain Skasti, a bit. It is intended as polysynthetic but I'm not entirely sure what the difference between synthetic and polysynthetic really is. It allows three prefixal slots and six suffixal in its verbal complex. There is a tendency for heavy collap...
