Collective Nouns, / yu -/, and their alignment: •there are collective nouns, like níene "leaves/foliage". •these do not take the plural marker /a-/, and are thought of as singular noun, though can take ordinal numbers. •/ju-/ marks 4p-4p. •collective nouns plural reference pattern: SUBJ: b...

Re: Commonthroat: a language that only a dog could probably pronounce

I was wondering if you could actually render some form of audio clip on this site of how some of this sounds. Playing around with Audacity as we speak. I'm messing around with the timing of vowel contours using the envelope tool and generated white noise as a base. Whines would be easy enough to sy...

Actually, it's quite good. You even used a cheeky phrasing, to boot, like you have always known it.

Verbal number marking. There's three relevant prefix slots for core argument marking: An outermost ergative person/gender marker (for transitive verbs), an absolutive person/gender marker and lastly a marker encoding number of both ergative and absolutive. Re: River Skasti (new grammar)

I have been meaning to ask this for a while but wasn't sure if I ever would: has there ever been any attested language that has exhibited a tripartite plural system like I use? I have never seen one. Look here https://books.google.com/books/about/Number.html?id=7jc-pgAFcE0C . Something similar to y...

Adverb Serialization: •verb roots can chain serialize. •they arrange in form of: "action-(grammar)-quality-abstract." •grammar still "infixes" to the chain behind the action root. •stress of a word is set on the action root; regardless of stress of any word in the adjective slot;...

There is a polypersonal agreement.

Code: Select all

	sg1O	sg2O	3O	pl1O	pl2O
sg1S	-	-ne	-i	-	-yol
sg2S	-ho	-	-la	-se	-
3S	-lan	-li	-∅	-fa	-kjul
pl1S	-	-	-ta	-	-kar
pl2S	-hon	-	-ti	-hor	-
If there is no object, the third person object form is used.
Is there no pl3S or pl3O?

I will read this paper but, for now, I wanna explain Skasti, a bit. It is intended as polysynthetic but I'm not entirely sure what the difference between synthetic and polysynthetic really is. It allows three prefixal slots and six suffixal in its verbal complex. There is a tendency for heavy collap...

I try to utter what I randomly think can be translated, all the time. I have been starting to bring it up in conversation to people. I enjoy being able to chat about it offline, too. Happy to say, I have even gotten to record myself saying long swathes of it.
