Re: Some "Universals" of Phonology
After five minutes of googling, I’ve found this paper which conflates stress with tone as it tries to reduce the accentual/tonic system, so I’m thoroughly confused now. I suggest simply ignoring that article. What it tries to tell you is how the author(s) is/are creative and innovative, rather than...

Re: Yay or Nay?
For some reason, I feel really hesitant to introduce postbases starting in a vowel that would just happily tack onto the preceding root along the lines of eka + osů → ekosů So the question is whether I should allow such user-friendly postbases? Yea or Nay? If your postbases are closed class, you ca...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
Relativization also can apply to oblique arguments (in some languages), but not to adjuncts (in any language so far as I know). With the definition of adjunct at hand, I seem to know one language your claim may be wrong for :) ( For one language in this claim may be wrong for one languge is an NP w...

Re: This phonology: yes or no?
Saras /kʷ/,/gʷ/, and /gʰʷ/ changed to /kp/, /gb/ , and /gbʰʷ/respectively. All other labialized consonants disappeared, thus /gʷʰ/ became /gʰ/ and /tʷ'/ to /t'/ /k'ʷ/ to /kʷ/, etc. Wait, did the protolanguage contrast /gʰʷ/ and /gʷʰ/? Or is this a typo, like (I think) /kʷ/? There are no uvular voic...

Is it possible for implosives, ejectives, and clicks to be geminated? Well, implosives, ejectives, and clicks are plosives and there are certainly some languages which distinguish geminate plosives from unitary plosives. In my mind and in practice, all that would be involved is holding the articula...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
doesn't it seem redundant to have different patterns for singular and plural if you have affixes for that? I don't think I understand the question. You cited examples from a natural language and asked if the patterns are "redundant". Obviously, you didn't mean redundancy as understood in ...

shimobaatar: what Salmoneus said, and... I feel like I HAVE to make only a few, basic root words, and derive the rest of the lexicon from those roots (like making a word for "sun" from a root meaning "to shine", which seems weird to me because such derivations are obscured in mos...

Re: Morpheme-boundaries and syllable-boundaries
Are there any natlangs in which each syllable is a morpheme and each morpheme is a syllable? Old Chinese, for the most part, probably counts. It had fewer, IIRC, fewer compounds than, say, Mandarin, and due to the lack of phonological mergers, where compounds did turn up, they were much more transp...

Re: Morpheme-boundaries and syllable-boundaries
What chris_notts said is valid. Also, I think there's a reason for things being like they are. Syllables and syllable boundaries can indeed be something unambiguously defined, in a specific language (although note that it's not always the case). Conversely, neither morphemes (resp. morpheme boundari...

Да, мой / у меня (?) родной язык - немецкий. Можно и так, и так. It's OK either way. На старом CBB был топик, где мы играли с немецким, как с праязыком для наших конлангов. There was a thread on the Old CBB where we toyed with German as the protolanguage for our conlangs. "Deutsch als Ursprach...
