Re: Metal Thread

I saw them live as an opener for Nightwish about four years ago. Quite impressive and energetic. I think I might have seen them on the same tour. They were opening for Nightwish, and had Delain as the first set. Fantastic show. They're really good as openers (I also saw them opening for Amon Amarth...

Re: Merry Christmas

If you want to emphasize the religious nature of the holiday in West Saxon, you would be more likely to say Blieðe Crissmasse /bɫið kɹɪsmæs/ "Happy Christmas" (note, while the holiday is Crissmasse , the church services would be kept as an uncontracted Cristes Masse /kɹɪsts mæs/ "Chri...

Re: How realistic are my pronouns?

I believe Quechua does something like this, where the case markings are the same as those used on the nouns. Also, the 2nd and 3rd person pluralize with the same morpheme as the nouns (1st person has irregular inclusive and exclusive plural suffixes). So there's that.

Re: West Saxon Grammar Sketch v 0.0.1

Not surprising, I took quite a bit of inspiration from West Frisian, including ideas of what to keep, like the two weak verb classes, as well as the vowel alterations, which were encouraged a bit by the breaking West Frisian experiences (albeit in different contexts and not as extensively). Plus the...

Re: What are you listening to/watching?

Been watching the Vinland Saga anime, and the song used in the titles is pretty good, imho. I'm not usually a fan of songs with screamy parts, but this one works for me.

Re: West Saxon Grammar Sketch v 0.0.1

VERBS - PRESENT TENSE Unlike nouns and adjectives, which have simplified significantly since the Old West Saxon Period, verbs in West Saxon have retained most of the formal distinctions from the earliest forms of the language. These include: Number - Singular and plural in all finite moods and tens...

Re: Goþesch Razde

That's actually... pretty close to my previous sketch (albeit formatted nicer.) The neuter has pro nominal and null forms, so one can find blindete alongside mere blind . Neat. Is there a functional difference between the pronominal and null neuters, like one is attributive, the other predicative, ...

Re: Goþesch Razde

Cool. So, based on that and the nominal declensions, I'm guessing the endings would be something like this? (assuming the strong/weak distinction is retained) +-----+-----+------+-----+------+-----+------+ | | Masculine | Feminine | Neuter | | +-----+------+-----+------+-----+------+ | | S | P | S |...

Re: West Saxon Grammar Sketch v 0.0.1

Your system of atonic and tonic pronouns interests me, if only because I am considering that path for my own Gothish. As it turns out, one of my adstrates, Greek, also has atonic and tonic pronouns. I'm wondering how you derived them? I know that Proto-Germanic had sets of weak unstressed pronouns ...

Re: West Saxon Grammar Sketch v 0.0.1

I love that you transformed the first person dual into an optional inclusive plural. Very cool! I also really like the truncated non-tonic form of the first person singular pronoun before all those consonants. It’s a great bit of allomorphy. I'm glad you liked it, spanick. The clusivity bit is prob...

Re: Guess the Word in Germanic Conlangs

Nope, but interesting thinking. Also, þued has a different sense than what you might be thinking; volk is the word you would use if you meant "people" in the sense of a national or ethnic identity.

Re: Guess the Word in Germanic Conlangs

Ok. Hopefully this one will prove less troublesome than my last word (though I fear it may be a bit too simple). Language : West Saxon Word : zwinkreþued Pronunciation : /ˈzɔjŋ.gɹ̩.ˌðœɥd/ I will note that, while this is a real word in West Saxon, it has kind of fallen out of fashion, replaced by a l...
