Re: Gotesch
I'm a sucker for a posteriori languages. I probably even tried a modern gothic at some point, but even more probably I gave up after a few hours of work due to my laziness. In our timeline, the language probably died out at the tail end of the 18th century, although it is possible it survived as a &...
Re: Áhɨnɨ́ɨ́
Can you elaborate about the confusing medial? I can indeed. The medial is, in fact, the only thing that isn't confusing, but that in itself is somewhat confusing. Allow me to explain. Argument differentiation and medial usage Áhɨní̵í̵ sentences aren't ordered on the basis of subject and object. Thi...

Re: Guess the meaning
Sorry to be obtuse but what is the point of this game?
Áhɨnɨ́ɨ́
Áhɨní̵í̵ is inspired by Blackfoot and for some reason this old conlang of Frislander's. The main idea is for it to have lots of aspects of polysynthesis but very little actual TAM and PNG information on the verb. It's not oligosynthetic but it does favour non-simplex constructions for even basic co...

Yeah nah that is a very odd analysis. I'd say /b d ɟʝ g/ With /b d ɟʝ g/ → [β~β̞ ð~ð̞ ʝ~j ɣ~ɰ] / V _ V Yeah, everyone likes to say /b d g/, but in reality, in most dialects, <b d> have no such surface form. dejad de andar is /ðɜˈχað ðe anˈðaɾ/. I'm sorry but I just don't believe you [:(]

Yeah nah that is a very odd analysis. I'd say
/p t tʃ k/
/b d ɟʝ g/
/f s x/
/m n ɲ/
/l ɾ r/
/i u e o a/
With /b d ɟʝ g/ → [β~β̞ ð~ð̞ ʝ~j ɣ~ɰ] / V _ V
The only odd thing is the mismatch between /tʃ/ and /ɟʝ/ but cross linguistically that is by no means uncommon.

Yes that is perfectly naturalistic. It would probably also affect aji and aju if they occur.

The English placename Torpenhow Hill is said to be from the combination of Old English torr , Celtic * penn , and Old English hoh , each of which mean 'hill'. Thus, the name 'Torpenhow Hill' could be interpreted as: hill-hill-hill Hill. I learnt it from someone on Reddit very recently and reposted ...

Nasalisation is contrasts on vowels. Vowels are automatically nasalised before nasal consonants.
Non-nasal /b d/ lenite to [v r] in intervocalic position. /b̃ d̃/ nasalise to [m n] before nasal vowels.
Syllable structure is CV.

Re: aelf's scratchpad
That sounds cool. I've heard it suggested that Romanian was a late palataliser like Dalmatian, only since it didn't diphthongise the hell out of its vowels (which protected e.g. CĒNAM → /kai̯na/ in Dalmatian) it's mostly disguised. Your tone system makes sense; the only alternative I could see would...

I learned that the second word of "Cape Verde" is pronounced /ˈvɜɹd(i)/ in English, and I'm suprised by how weird that feels to me. I've always pronounced it /ˈvɛɹdeɪ̯/, under the influence of Spanish (admittedly, the wrong colonizer). But /ˈvɜɹd(i)/ just sounds ugly to me [xD] It'll alwa...
