Re: Conlang Relay XVII - It Has Begun (Signups closed)

There's a chance I'll have to drop out, as (1) this has run right into my final exams, (2) 72 hours is a bit tight for me whether I have to study or not, and (3) I currently have no usable conlang. I'll do my best, though ─ keep me in for now. Alright – let me know if you want me to push you back. ...

PDF or plain text are both fine, as long as we keep moving.

Chustangiuplesh

chimènd
/ɕɪˈmɛnd/
"cement"

From Latin CÆMENTUM. Chustangiuplesh shows regular consonant mutation, hence thri cimiènd /θɾi tsiˈmjɛnd/ "three cements", chu nghimènd /hʊ dʑɪˈmɛnd/ "with cement".

Ai:

sö́bê
/sɞbɛF/
[sɞ́βɛ᷈]
"cement"

Borrowed from Indonesian semen (hehehe). Note how Indo iambs are borrowed with morpheme-level falling tone, realised as H-LHL, and /m/ is borrowed as the nearest equivalent, [β].

Pray tell what these two morphemes are. Maybe present tense -c and 3.sg. -ɔ, and they're on top of each other?

It marks two different categories on one morpheme, so it's fusional.

Re: Rate your conlang!

English is fusional in as much as it is really synthetic at all. But that's not really very significant with borderline cases like English. Like -s is fusional for present tense and 3rd person singular, but it's also the only present tense marker, and the only 3sg marker, so like who cares

Re: Rate your conlang!

Apásssa is inspired by Caddo, Pawnee and Wichita, which are all polysynthetic and to a degree fusional. Apásssa leans into the morphophonology side more and requires a deep analysis to tease apart morphemes, as Kiwikami can attest to. Phonologically it's fine apart from having arbitrarily long conso...

Lexember the first (I shall be using a different conlang for each day, working back in reverse chronological order, and will only be coming up with words for "cement" regardless of the theme) Apásssa: hihaysastékpapə́y [hihɑjɕastɛ˥kʰpɑpej̥˥] yayyay=sa-st-ara-skw-aspaway in.water=INCHO-SBRD...

What is the etymology of "Pennine" in Pennine Alps and does it have any relation to similarly named mountain ranges like the Pennines and Apennines? Like, it can't all be a coincidence... From what I can gather, no-one really knows. There's definitely a connection between the three; the P...
