Re: How do your languages treat (in)definiteness?
No definiteness. No articles. My conlang is just like any language without them. Agree with Khemehekis here, what do you mean "like any language"? My conlang also has no articles, but still has mechanisms for expressing (in)definiteness (as do many natlangs without articles). On another n...

How do your languages treat (in)definiteness?
I am deciding how my language will interpret nominals as definite or indefinite. The language is an article-less language with zero-marked singulars and a plural suffix. Right now I'm considering having overt plural marking necessarily result in a definite interpretation, with a zero-marking ambiguo...

Re: Symbols of Concultures
I'd actually like to see them! An easy way to handle images is to upload them to Postimages and use the image link button above the CBB editing pane to insert into a message here. Thank you for the tip! Here is the vermillion on turquoise : https://i.postimg.cc/C1TBgYXC/Vrkhazhian-Flag-Vermillion.p...

Re: Symbols of Concultures
The vermillion does pop a little more, but I'm not sure that's a good thing. I think it just means that the two hues are closer to being perfect opposites on the color wheel, which in my opinion can hurt the eyes a little. If you look at the images in black and white, you can actually see that the v...

Re: Designing Color words for your conlang
This thread caught my eye but is sadly very small! Especially since the way we see color, codify it in our languages, and then use it figuratively is so interesting. I've found Berlin and Kay's 1969 typology to be useful in thinking about color, although it has been critiqued and revised since. Thei...

El dialecto chileno es una maldición sobre este mundo.

Re: Making a Music Culture?
* the octave is always a salient interval. In fact, AFAIC intervals are always how pitch is organized: there are no musical traditions which build instrument graded in, say, absolute amounts of hertz. * some concept of pitch classes repeating up and down octaves, this is to say, a note: a special f...

Re: Introduction thread(s)
Ooh I just found the introduction thread! I'm Rosha; I'm a linguist by trade and have been conlanging and worldbuilding since I was a child. (Although "conlanging" is a strong word for what I was doing back then...I feel like I only really got the hang of it several years ago, and of cours...

Re: Making a Music Culture?
This is great! I should mention I already have a ukulele, piano, and a classical guitar (although the classical guitar is not currently at my house...I will have to get it here). I know how to play 1.5/3 of these instruments haha. A ukulele seems especially easy to experiment with. I think something...

Re: Making a Music Culture?
You guys are so amazing, thanks for all your great responses!! I joined the Worldbuilding Stackexchange just a few days ago, but quickly realized that it wasn't a discussion-based group and that that's what I really wanted. Glad to see that such a place exists! Unfortunately, while I've often - incl...

Making a Music Culture?
Hi, I'm brand new both to forums in general as well as to this particular forum, so let me know if I am doing something wrong, my question needs to go elsewhere, etc. Basically, I am wondering about how you guys come up with musical traditions for your conworlds. I have a society that lives on earth...
