Re: Weird Dream Thread

I used to have a lot of recurring nightmares when I was about 7-8. In the one I remember the best I am a climber in the Himalayas. I am climbing to some sort of shelter on the mountain ridge through deep snow and dangerous passages, and when I finally get there, the door is closed and my hand gets f...

Interesting. Are interspecies relationships uniformly accepted in the Lehola Galaxy, or are there some cultures where they're frowned upon, or forbidden?
Also, congrats in hitting your milestone! I can't imagine hitting 2000 words, let alone tens of thousands. Your work is really impressive.

Then you can use this, input in XSAMPA or manually, then copy and paste the IPA into your post.

Los resultados son disponsible! The results are out! Obtuve el tercero lugar de cinco en mi nivel. I got third place out of five in my division. Creo que soy contenta con eso. I'm happy with that, I think. (Pero una otra estudiante de mi escuela obtuve el primer lugar en un nivel más alto de Españo...

Re: Forum News discussion/feedback thread

There is a bug in XIPA — when converting from X-SAMPA to IPA, J\_ always yields ʄ, regardless of what is appended after. It's not that big of an issue as you can still select the proper symbols manually, and I don't know if XIPA is still being maintained, but it would be great if it was fixed. (apol...

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

So, I read somewhere that Persian has the vowels /æ ɒː e i oː uː/. Why are some of them long and some short? Most languages that have phonemic vowel length tend to have them come in pairs like /a aː i iː u uː/, while in Persian, it seems that back vowels are long, and front ones are short. Are ther...

lesia<re>n celco novi man<OBL> dog hear The man hears the dog. Thus celco novi -> the dog is being heard, celcore novi -> the dog hears (something) . Your case system is certainly intriguing; the OBL NOM construction makes me think of a NOM-ACC alignment with a marked nominative and an unmarked acc...

Re: Abaniscen

There are three 'number' affixes. The longer form is used after consonant-final stems. -(ne)mor : plural. Not obligatory, in fact usually omitted when context allows. Has an iterative meaning for action words. -(ne)hay : nullative. -(ne)nin : general. Can have a habitual meaning for action words, bu...

Is there a consistent connection between nominal and verbal meanings? Like, is there a formula to convert from one to another? (e.g. "instance of [verb]ing" or "to be [noun]") "instance of [verb]ing" is usually correct to assume. "to be [noun]" is covered by ...

Re: Abaniscen

Looks good! I'd been seeing it around in the translations, and was curious. Does the "oblique" serve along the lines of an ergative? It marks agents, but not the subjects of transitive verbs? If most words serve as the same class syntactically ─ celcore tia is "the dog speaks," ...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I don't think this looks like 416 years' worth of sound changes... most of them are pretty minuscule. Maybe some contextual changes? With every lexical set remaining undivided and only one merger, it just looks like a slightly weird 2024 English accent.

Nice start! The coalescence of consonants into palatalized and voiceless forms reminds me a bit of Icelandic. Although I am wondering about how ɾh hɾ > tʼ tʼ came to be. Thanks! The /tʼ/ can be explained diachronically: there was once /ɗ/, which became /ɾ/ in all contexts except _h_, where it remai...

Abaniscen

I think I should finally make a thread for Abaniscen. It started as a sketch for Lexember 2022 and I haven't scrapped it since then, which means that it is more than one year old! Phonology Let's start with the boring part. The phonemic inventory of Abaniscen is very small, consisting of five/nine v...
