Re: What is the newest word in your conlang?
That's a great word. And a problem I'm often subject to. It's too bad I'm not a yinrih and can't pronounce it, heh!

Continuing the tale of "Arayaz did dumb things in the Xúuuatxia romanization," I'm reromanizing [ɲ] as <nj>. I don't particularly like the look, but I like <ñ> far less, and my ever-used <ň> doesn't match the aesthetic I'm going for.

I slip out of the fold of the multiverse and act as if I've been there all along. "Eel," I say, guessing that it was a greeting due to its position in the utterance, and perhaps due to its resemblance to a greeting in another language I knew spoken in a place oddly similar to this one. Ee...

You act as though you expect us to understand what you mean by that ...
Are you, perhaps, saying that you have one conlang, which you are fluent in, and in which you write?

As much as I love putting all my stuff on here, it is a bit inconvenient for certain things, such as lexicon documentation. So I'm relocating my Xúuuatxia lexicon to this spreadsheet. I'll use this for any lexicons and suchlike, and I'll link to it in the table of contents.

Welcome to the board, guyontheinternet!
Well, you can always come up with things yourself. And what are some examples of things you're trying to evolve? I and others here could likely give you some suggestions.

And English - at least, US English - distinguishes [ɾ] and /ɹ/. The former isn't conventionally considered phonemic yet, but its a very well-established allophone. Well, in this case they're more distinct than that, since the latter is at the least retracted to /ɹ̠/, and more than often labialized ...

There seem to be about 10 to 15 odor words in languages that use them, which I find interesting as that's about how many base color terms languages have. Huhhh? Didn't Berlin and Kay find a maximum eleven basic color categories (white, black, red, green, yellow, blue, brown, purple, pink, orange, g...

Welcome to the board, Akubra! First up: Probably don't trust ChatGPT on its own, especially for less-well-known fields like linguistics. Ideally, use Google or Wikipedia (and don't trust Google's AI search overviews, either). And ideally, check the sources for it. That said, the distinction between ...

Okay, I didn't like how Rúuuädjia and Xvótxie looked, and I wanted to do some other stuff differently too, so disregard that post. I'll have something new up today or (more likely) tomorrow.
