Re: Arayaz's thread so that she doesn't flood the forum [comments encouraged!]

Hiatus until further notice Due to some technological circumstances, I will be off the CBB for some time. Much of the schedule is uncertain, but I will be back full-time sometime in August. Until then, consider me inactive for all intents and purposes, unless the situation changes. Not that you all...

Re: Handling multiple romanizations for the same sound

In Lexurgy, you can work with symbols, but each symbol must be unique and have distinct qualities. Therefore, defining the following is not allowed: Symbol ʃM [unvoiced postalveolar sibilant fricative consonant] Symbol ʃH [unvoiced postalveolar sibilant fricative consonant] Perhaps I should just wo...

And yet it has four stops in its English name! Funny how that works out. Like how Arapaho lacks /a/ and forbids vowel-initial words.

Re: Which part of grammar are you specializing in as a conlanger nowadays?

I've gotten really into valence and manipulation of semantic roles, and just constructions relating words to one another in general (that's a bad phrasing, but like, converbs and nominalization and stuff). I've done a lot of that in Ǫǫ and a little in Xúuuatxia. For a while (during my Ruykkarraber p...

Khemehekis, a couple questions about Lehola: How long has globeseeding/bioswaths been a technology? How has it evolved over its history? Globeseeding was first invented 3 billion Earth-years ago by the Greys on the planet Hmtcha, which orbited a now-dead sun named Pn. The Hmtchans copied all the DN...

It ... depends what you mean? Like, if someone were to speak Upriver, do the changes from the center apply as well as the changes from Upper Central and Upriver No. "Upriver" changes apply to Upriver and Upper Central, and "Central" changes apply to Upper Central, Central, and L...

Re: Extensive Noun Class Systems and Case Marking

Relying on WALS to check the plausibility of an idea is not a good idea. It has a limited sample size, and more importantly, correlations between features (or lacks thereof) will be strongly exaggerated by language families. So, short answers: Is there a set of factors which leads to extensive noun ...

Re: Arayaz's thread so that she doesn't flood the forum [comments encouraged!]

A note: the distinction between /æ̃/ from *ẽ and from *ã only matters in one place: at the end of a word, where the former mutates to [ẽː] upon the addition of a suffixed nasal, but the latter mutates to [õː]. So I'll romanize the latter <ą> at the end of a word, but <ę> elsewhere for ease. Ǫǫ Morph...

Re: Arayaz's thread so that she doesn't flood the forum [comments encouraged!]

A little more nasalization stuff in Ǫǫ Ǫǫ has relatively late nasalization onset time, and nasalization persists somewhat into the next segment. Thus a word such as /bãd/ could be closer to [baãnd]. There is one ramification of this: after an oral vowel, /m n ŋ/ become [b d ɡ], and all vowels are n...

Yeah, I was just talking about world-external romanizations. I try to walk more on the consistent/convenient side of the road, as opposed to the aesthetic/artistic side. But this may ultimately just be a difference of opinion.

I am thiiiis close to scrapping Xúuuatxia. I feel like it's kinda diverged from what I originally liked about it, and it feels contrived, in a way, too. Now, I know who this is talking: the part of me that never sticks with anything and is too quick to see the faults in everything and everyone. This...

I'd say so, at least at this point in time.

It ... depends what you mean? The central dialect is the most conservative, yes, but it's not changeless, either.
