Re: How unbalanced is your lexicon?

I had a quote about mine somewhere... let's see... Oh well, I can't open Tumblr rn, so misquote time: Lexical bias in conlanging is when you can say "I have gazed long and deeply into my future, and after reflection, I have decided that I do not like it" but can't say "now the cat was...

Re: Lexicon milestones and discussion of lexicon growth

I have around 650 words in Arežagh right now. Unfortunately, around 120 of them have potentially dangerous homophones. Also, there are the near-homophones va "benefit, gain" and vá "travesty." So I have to, before the end of the week, fill out 1,300 words in the lexicons of Aryay...

Re: A note on the Voynich Manuscript

From Wikipedia: The peculiar internal structure of Voynich manuscript words led William F. Friedman to conjecture that the text could be a constructed language. In 1950, Friedman asked the British army officer John Tiltman to analyze a few pages of the text, but Tiltman did not share this conclusion...

In Hɛlcɛso, the word for "idiot" is ɛlon , named after everyone's favorite billionaire techbro, Elon Musk (/s). I made this word around the time I deleted Twitter from my phone and moved permanently to Tumblr. I would do things like this, except there are too many people I want to critici...

Yoshó *shudders at speaking its name* was base 8, counting the non-thumb fingers and spaces between them with the thumb. (Eight hand positions including zero = base 8.) With two hands, they could count up to 63.

Now that I'm thinking about this more I might try something like that with some voiceless stops since I've already decided I don't want to have too many of those (I've heard somewhere that could help a language flow better and I want it to sound very flowy for lack of a better word ) so maybe inste...

Re: Conlang word easter eggs?

In Ruykkarraber, anadeu means "strange" or "weird." It's an easter egg for ANADEW. I was lucky with this, since while anadeu is not a valid root, adeu is ─ and I happened to already have a prefix an- . (It's a generic negator; adeu means "normal" or "expected.")
