Re: Boring inflection/conjugation
Ah, no; the dashes were what I used to separate the root from the affixes, to make it more clear how the paradigms differed. But no problem! I'm happy to help. Sound changes are one of the most dense and deep fields of conlinguistics, and also are quite important to those aiming to create naturalist...

Re: The Sixth Conversation Thread
Anyone here familiar with opera? I'm looking for recommendations about how to get started with listening to opera — I love the vocal style, but don't know much else.

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
It depends? I will say I can't immediately think of a reason that would happen, but it's not unimaginable. Can we have more context?

From that language, we have the following developments: Umlaut. /a u/ neutralize to a single front phoneme [ɛ~œ~æ] when the next vowel in a word is /i/. A weaker process keeping the distinction, producing [æ] and [ʉ], occurs across word boundaries. Vowel loss. Word-final unstressed vowels are lost. ...

Re: Recent deaths.
Oh, I saw a production of that play just a few weeks ago! It was quite good. Was this one of those school productions that bowdlerize the lyrics of "Chip's Lament" to "my unfortunate distraction"? It was a school production, but no, they kept the song in its full original glory....

I don’t think analysis swap threads should be under Games; honestly, I think the present arrangement, with conlang-related RPs under Conlangs and conworld-related RPs under Conworlds. Mostly, I’m hesitant to add a forum for something that may well die off eventually and never be used again.

Re: Boring inflection/conjugation
Hey! The problem you describe is pretty common. Trust me, I've grappled with it too. The best way to make interesting and naturalistic paradigms, rife with allomorphy/morphophonology, is via sound change . For example, let's say we have a system where the present tense is unmarked, the future tense ...

Is there a place where I can create one? I couldn’t find any button. A thread? The same way you created this one, you can create another. "New topic" at the top under any given forum (e.g. "Conlangs"). People like me who make a lot of projects often make one thread (sometimes ca...

So the Zomítla expression is literally "rest in peace," just like in English? Is there contact between Zomítla and English speakers? Or is it a coincidence?

Re: What are you listening to/watching?
Death metal band Gojira. Describing Gojira as death metal is one of the hotter takes I've seen here recently. (Yes, they have deathy influences, but to simply call them "death metal" a) fails to capture the actual sound of the music and b) passes up on an opportunity to say "whalecor...

Re: Other Creativity
I wrote a music track inspired by the "You must escape" roleplay. Specifically I tried portraying the Voice in music. Vocals - maybe? I'm not good at singing (I'm awful, in fact), I'll probably use a vocoder or something. CW : a bit loud. This is excellent! I don't think it needs vocals i...

Re: Arayaz's thread so that she doesn't flood the forum [comments encouraged!]
Sometime recently we hit 100,000 views on this thread. That is unfathomable to me. Of course, it counts as a new view every time someone turns a page, but still, it's nearly 300 views per post. That that many people willingly glance at my work is kind of crazy. In honor of this (how? idk) I have dec...
