Re: Lexember 2024 (Suggestions end November 25th, Voting ends November 30th)

So that last entry was bad and I should feel bad. I'll probably keep πšœπ™±π™²π™΅πšŒπš thermally conductive table as a lexeme, but it'll mean something else less silly. Here's something that makes way more sense and fits the week's theme better. Honestly this is the idea that evolved into the previous entry as...

Re: Your first conworld

My first conworld was for a little story I wrote in which all the people involved were shapes. At least I think that was my first. It wasn't very fleshed out. If nothing else, at least it wasn't like Flat World where shapes were treated differently based on number of sides or the like. I was going ...

Re: Conlang Relay XVII - It Has Begun (Signups remain open)

A small bit of constructive feedback: If more people join it'll keep extending the relay and push back when we all get to see how our torch compares to others'. I suggest in the future having a deadline for signups, a hard limit on the number of participants per ring, and a strictly enforced time li...

Your first conworld

Inspired by the Your first conlang thread, here's an equivalent for conworlds. I've been conworlding longer than I've been conlanging, with efforts that I can confidently call "conworlds" going back to the late 90s. My first conworld was an informal collaborative project between some frien...

Re: Rate your conlang!

https://khemehekis.angelfire.com/basic.htm What do all you English-speakers think of my Kankonian? I like the use of the linguolabial trill. IIRC you started working on Kankonian in the late 90s. I didn't even start conlanging until fall of 2002 at the earliest and have been a consistent scrapper u...

More on Firefly

So I've decided that Firefly is going to be more literally lich-like. Instead of the Eternal Womb being located in a lavish throne room, it's squirreled away somewhere deep within the cavernous capital complex, which occupies the entire surface, and possibly interior, of a dwarf planet. It's true lo...

Re: Commonthroat: a language that only a dog could probably pronounce

What would the Kankonians call monkey-foxes/yinrih? "Monkey-fox" would probably be expressed in Kankonian as zaturafiti ( zatura , monkey + fiti , fox). Then they could also borrow "yinrih" as yinrihh . Except the accent would be on the second syllable. HH is pronounced /Δ§/. hmm...

Re: Rate your conlang!

Eh grammar-wise Commonthroat isn't very difficult, given that TheThief3 translated my torch in like 24 hours, far less time than it took me to make it. I've leaned toward minimalism, so there aren't a lot of inflections to memorize. Inflecting nouns for personal deixis, which I regard as its most &q...

Prayer rings are intended both as meditation aids and fidget toys, with very low friction between the inner gear and outer ring, the gear can spin for a surprisingly long time. Younger pups are often given a prayer ring to fidget with during long liturgies.

The citizens of Partisan Territory refer to the polity as The Outlands, and to themselves as Outlanders. Moonlitter objects to this usage, since the term historically implies a larger territory than the Partisans currently control.

`sbrPrFbrg` (bonekeepers) are volunteers who maintain the bones lining the inner and outer walls of a lighthouse.
