Re: Adding a naming system to a "normal" conlang?
Perhaps you could have the Gods name themselves in this fashion in a "Divine Language" and then have the name be corrupted and evolve as a Proper Name in the "Human Languages". I like that idea, and having them name themselves in that way could also help show how they think of t...

Re: Adding a naming system to a "normal" conlang?
I don't think it should work with the gods though since even though they aren't omnipotent they were created primarily from the dying body of the creator god after they had overexerted themselves when they used too much mana creating the earth. The five original gods were made from the five limbs of...

Re: Adding a naming system to a "normal" conlang?
I feel like names may be a place for some non-naturalism in your conlang, if this is the same divine language you’ve talked about earlier. Some aspects of naming may come as a logical consequence of your “theology” for the conworld: What do the gods value? What is their function in the world? How d...

Re: Adding a naming system to a "normal" conlang?
Thanks, I'll look for that thread. I've already gone this far so I might as well go all the way now lmao.

Adding a naming system to a "normal" conlang?
I've heard about how some people make conlangs just to name things, but since I'm getting ready to start naming my gods I was wondering if there's a different approach better suited for making naming conventions for a conlang I've already started the vocabulary and grammar of. Any tips/advice?

Re: Non-decimal number systems in conlangs
The current plan for Zeigouŋdeizese is base-20 with a subbase of 5. This vaguely reminds me of how roman numerals worked but with a spoken form as well (pardon me if roman numerals were actually spoken in a way like this in Latin), pretty interesting Edit: I think its the way that numbers between s...

Re: What did you accomplish today?
I've finally done my first translation ("All your demands will be met") since yesterday I finished writing a name for my language, (Shinmavu /ʃɪnmevu/) and making the new words for it took much longer than I had expected since I had to come up with my system of tenses (I have past, present...

Non-decimal number systems in conlangs
I'm planning on having a conlang with a base 12 number system due to the speakers counting with their thumbs as a pointer on the right hand and to count dozens on the left hand (this can get up to 144, I stole the idea from a method used parts of the middle east), what about your conlang(s)?

Re: How can I do intentionally non-naturalistic diachronics?
Now that I'm thinking about this more I might try something like that with some voiceless stops since I've already decided I don't want to have too many of those (I've heard somewhere that could help a language flow better and I want it to sound very flowy for lack of a better word ) so maybe inste...

Re: How can I do intentionally non-naturalistic diachronics?
Sorry I saw this and then forgot to answer, that seems like it could work. What's an ANADEW by the way? "A Natlang Already Did it, Except Worse." I have an easter egg for this in Ruykkarraber: anadeu means "weird." Ohhh, that makes sense. I'd probably have to research those two ...

How can I do intentionally non-naturalistic diachronics?
I had asked about this in the end of my last post but I think this can qualify for a whole post since I haven't been able to find anything on this since usually the entire point of diachronics IS being natural. If you didn't see that one, the gist of it is that I have this group of bored gods who ar...

Re: Is it alright if I don't evolve my language?
I'd also like to add: it's possible to have non-naturalistic diachronics as well. Tolkien's languages, for instance, strictly speaking have non-naturalistic diachronics, despite the end result being largely naturalistic. This is because his elves have considerably more conscious control over their ...

Re: Is it alright if I don't evolve my language?
When I really think about it, I'm not sure this conlang even should be crazy naturalistic in the first place just because of the fact that its only spoken by a relatively small number of immortal beings (I haven't decided how many yet but it certainly won't break 300) so while there would be change ...

Is it alright if I don't evolve my language?
I constantly see people talking about evolving their languages and while I will probably make an evolved language later, I'm not sure if I want to do all that with my current project but it I'm not sure if it would still turn out well if I don't. What should I do? Is there anything extra I should do...

Oh, thats a good idea and could probably help cut down on my root word count. If you're wondering, here's the mess I'm currently working with https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hRkUJFC6Ha2Me3PJI5DvS0pRh-2NEDQPI3VRd0xzOAY/edit?usp=sharing edit: By the way, the ones in there that don't have phonetics...

Re: Too many pronouns?
I'm not sure I plan on them being truly omniscient and all-knowing but they will pretty much have creations with genders from the beginning (humans, dwarves etc. will probably have come later though when they get more bored) and only have them to differentiate for clinical purposes, but fair point o...
